@Meggo5: I put them in a big bowl of hot soapy water as well. In the beginning I would even sanitize the sink before doing that, hahaa.

Yesterday we had 4 bottles from pumping at work plus 3 bottles that she took at the babysitters. We also had the 3 bottles she took while home, and 6 bottles from pumping at home. And pump parts.

We line the bottles up next to the sink and whenever one of us is in the kitchen killing time (waiting for microwave, etc), we wash a few. DH finishes up whatever is left right before bed. Yes, he also washes my pump parts. I will run the dishwasher with a load of bottles if it's at least half full, and have no problem running it every night if needed.

@Meggo5: Every other night I wash the bottle part in the dishwasher along with most of my pump parts and storage bottle caps in 2 munchkin baskets. I hand wash all of the nipples and medela bottles in hot soapy water.

I have a lot of bottles (8+) and 6 full sets of pump parts, so I can usually get away with doing dishes just every other day with a few short sessions (<5 min.) in between. By the full (wash everything) usually takes me about 30 min.. such a pain.. and for me, the worst part of pumping.

Our old dishwasher wouldn't get all the fat residue out of the bottles so I handwashed every other night. We only sterilized bottles once when new. Our new dishwasher does get the bottles clean and has a sanitize option that we use... I am seriously in love with that dishwasher.

Hot water and soap. It's honestly not really necessary to sterilize them constantly. I did it when I first bought then and once every couple of months since.

I just wash the bottles with hot running water and a soaped bottle brush. If there is stuck on stuff, I just let them sit on the counter with a little water before I wash. You don't even want to know how many bottles we go through in our house with twins and I can usually wash a whole 24 hrs worth in 15 min. We sanitize the nipples in a pot of boiling water once a week on the weekend.

We run the dishwasher every night (sanatize cycle). I would go nuts if I had to wash everything by hand every night.

@regberadaisy: @mrsjazz: Do you wash them directly in the sink, or do you use a big bowl to soak them in? I worry about any germs in the sink already and would prefer not to have to sanitize that first. Not sure if using a bowl to soak them in would eliminate this?

We handwash with hot soapy water then sterlize in a sterilizer nightly. We have 3 bottles, 4 pump bottles and breast pumps. It's usually in 2 batches so it takes, I don't know, maybe 10-15 minutes for the handwash portion?

This is my next question in a long line of pumping/bottle feeding/daycare questions! Thanks for putting up with these!

Now that I am back at work and getting into my working mommy routine, I am overwhelmed by the amount of tasks to be done when we get home in the evenings. I thought the morning was tough!

My main question is about washing all of the bottles. It seems like a very long process and I am wondering how you wash/santitize your bottles. I imagine it would be easiest to use the dishwasher but I am not sure I want to get into running it every single night. Also, I feel like I would have to rinse them out afterwards anyways.

How do you wash your bottles. About how long does it take you (we go through 5 bottles a day)?
