I use free and clear detergents for everything, my skin gets itchy.
But I wash the diapers separate from our regular laundry. The diapers get washed twice so it uses more water to put in regular clothes with the diapers and do 2 washes. Sometimes on the 2nd wash I'll throw in a few extra things but the second wash is a hot wash so it limits what I can throw in.

@c.sassy: You should be fine to use All free and clear on your clothes and a cloth-safe detergent on the diapers. Just wash them at separate times so you can switch the detergents and you shouldn't run into issue.

I always wash my diapers separate and use a different detergent for them as DH and mines cloths. We use Dropps (after a fail with Rock n Green...buildup issues) for diapers and DS's cloths. For DH and I, I either use Dropps, Sun & Earth, or 7th Gen. We use Ecover for fabric softener on our cloths but nothing on DS's.

I always wash our diapers separately from our clothes. I stocked up on Tide Original powder before they replaced it with the new Ultra version. I use that only for our diapers, and we use whatever free and clear liquid detergent is on sale at the store for our clothes.

There is a really good chart on detergents at the link below that rates each different detergent for their cloth diaper friendliness.

@pelikila: I use All Free & Clear for mine and DH's clothes, which is apparently not great to use because of brighteners. Maybe it wouldn't be a big deal to use that on our clothes and then use something like Charlie's just for diapers?

It depends on the detergent you use for your regular clothes. What are you using for your regular clothes?

I do separate loads with different detergents. I've never heard of switching detergents for non-diaper loads, but I always wash the diapers separately.

I just got my shipment in from Green Mountain Diapers (love them!), and now have to prep all my new diapers. I know you don't have to be as particular with detergent and 100% cotton diapers, but I do want to use a detergent that protects my investment as much as possible. My question is, do I really have to switch the detergent that I was our clothes in as well?
