I responded to the extra rinse at the end. If you were also asking about the extra rinse in the beginning that is to get out any urine or poop. If you are willing, you can do that part in your tub or sink before heading to your communal washing machines.

I do a rinse before and after, for reasons PO said.

That's very ambitious to cloth diaper in an apartment! And I complain about my every other day laundry when my machine is right there. That's awesome that you're doing it!

I have to do a cold water wash before the hot cycle in order to get the solid matter off the diapers. You can probably experiment with your settings to see what works best, but a cold rinse in your sink might work before heading to the laundromat. Good luck!

I haven't had to use community washing machines but with my experience, that extra rinse (or 3 in my case since I have a soft water issue) isn't because the diapers aren't clean. It is to help get out any excess detergent so they don't repel.

Anyone live in an apartment or otherwise use laundrymats and cloth diaper?

What are your tips or tricks to getting the diapers the cleanest possible without resorting to doing an extra load?

Or is it absolutely necessary to do an extra load to get an extra rinse?

What if I rinsed by hand first in the toilet like my mom used to?

So many questions! HELP! three months until baby comes.
