@MaryM: my aunt hands out crocheted dish cloths every Christmas, it is by far my favorite gift! I use them for 2 days and then wash.

I also use the dishwasher and a bottle brush for bottles/sippy cups. For pans I usually use a green scrubber if it's really dirty.

@Dagny: Well, DH and I both work full time, so there aren't a ton of dishes done at home on a daily basis. We probably do one big clean up maybe twice a week? A lot gets put directly into the dish washer.

@MaryM: wow, 7-10 days! That's a lot longer than I would have thought.

@Dagny: I make my own out of kitchen cotton and a simple crochet stitch. Length of use depends on how much cleaning we do, but I'd say every 7-10 days I grab a new one. I hang them to dry and they're good for a few uses, but after that they get sort of stiff and that grosses me out and I grab a new one.

I like the crocheted ones because I feel like they dry better (since they're sort of a loose stitch) and the stitching makes them good for scrubbing.

I'm surprised how many people use a rag or washcloth, but am intrigued! For those who use a rag/washcloth, how long do you use it for? Any particular type of fabric work best?

ideally, my husband! haha... I use a sponge or a brush, but mostly the dishwasher and the brush is just for LO sippy cups and tupperware.

I just switched to washcloths after my washcloth using family visited and continually talked about how germy sponges get, but my husband still prefers the sponge.

We rely heavily on our dishwasher, but for pots and pans we use a washcloth and a soap dispenser brush.

I prefer a crocheted washcloth (because they get washed more often)

DH prefers a scrubby sponge (because he's a messier cook, maybe). But it's a pet peeve of mine that he'll leave the sponge in the sink where it won't ever dry instead of in the dish right next to the sink (probably part of why I prefer the rag since I keep them fairly clean).

We also use a soap-dispensing OXO brush that we purchased from Costco. When the brushes start to get old, we just replace them.
