Haha came here to say the same thing as everyone else. DC on the 4th is a MAD. HOUSE. Definitely appropriate to compare it to Times Square on New Year's Eve, only with the equivalent heat instead of cold.

Thanks all! DH had said today that he doesn't want to go. All of this helps me with that! I didn't even think about the heat!

It's going to be in the mid 90s here on the 4th, and yes, very crowded and touristy. The museums are going to be packed with people looking for AC, while they're waiting for the fireworks on the Mall, so honestly, I'd avoid it.

Yeah, a long road trip just for the day to DC on the 4th sounds like a big hassle.

Not too much to add hasn't already to be said, but this is my 6th year in DC and we always plan our vacations to be out of the city for the fourth. I do think it can be a great experience, but to get a good spot on the mall takes sitting outside all day long, which at 33 weeks pregnant in the heat sounds pretty horrible. A Nats game could be fun, but I'm not sure if you could get to the game and then feasibly do anything else given the crowds and the metro, or even contemplating parking. . I would plan a different long weekend to explore the city. There is always something going on.

Would you drive there? IMO it doesn't sound like fun. The train might be more doable. But it ain't cheap. It reminds me of NYE in NYC; some people love it but it sounds like the 7th circle of hell to me. And I live near NYC.

@pmerr: it will be absolutely packed, hot, and miserable. I avoid DC on the 4th because it is so crowded. Is there another day you could be here? It is such a great city that I'd hate for all that you'd experience is the crowds.

I should mention I live a mile away and go into the city every day and walked a ton while pregnant. If you come this weekend, the amount of walking in the heat without a place to sit down is going to make you feel awful.

I used to live there and did a few 4th of July celebrations. I wouldn't recommend it at 33 weeks pregnant! It will be so hot and crowded!

@pmerr: It's very, very hot and humid in DC in July. FYI. All that walking, in the heat and crowd at 33 weeks pregnant does not sound great to me...

I'm sorry but that sounds terrible! I lived in DC and the people who lived there didn't even leave their homes usually because it was so annoying with tourists and the heat. And pregnant! Gosh, I would try to find a body of water to float in!

We are considering going to Washington DC for the 4th next week. How busy/touristy is it that day? We live 6 hours away, but we'd basically only be there that day. I know we could do the Nats game, museums, concerts.

I'm also going to be 33 weeks pregnant, so I'm not sure if it's the greatest idea (I also don't want to take the extra day off work since I'm budgeting what I get).
