@ladyfingers: I've been having the most awful road rage lately :( I realized now I get even more pissed off since I have L in the car and the idiots are putting her life in danger. Last week, some a-hole cut me off and I was so angry that I started screaming at him. I realized I need to chill out when L started crying in the back seat :(

@ladyfingers: oh gosh..you sound like my twin. i went off prozac several months before TTC and even though I think I remember hearing that its one of the safe ones for breastfeeding, I still don't want to take it yet. but that means I definitely lose my temper on DH often and quick. I just try to quickly say "I'm sorry, I'm mad at what you did, not you" or something to catch myself. It's tough!

@sorrycharlie: Aww... thanks for that! I have a history of depression and anxiety and I'm not currently on any meds, so that may be why I fly off the handle so violently sometimes (verbally violent... not violent violent).

I was diagnosed with a depressive episode and anxiety during my 4th month, and spent MUCH of months 1-7 (and 8-9 but more emotional hormones than the diagnosis) arguing, sobbing, miserable and angry. I even participated in a study for it!

Then I would get myself going that I was going to have a miserable, anxious baby and she was going to only know me as yelling! I would sob and sob that I wasn't a good mom and she wasn't even here yet.

I can tell you that they are totally ok! She is the most content, easy going baby! For now.. ;)

I totally do this too. I've thought about trying to chill out with my road rage but on my drive into work people just work my last nerve with their horrific driving. I can't help it. Lol. Our boys will be okay. We're toughening them up. Haha.

I'm really not much of a yeller and screamer. But I'll tell you what... this kid would be pretty traumatized if it could hear that things that run through my head and don't get said outloud : )

LOL! You know the epxression "cuss like a sailor"? Well I was a sailor, and I work with sailors, and am married to a sailor. However, I think DH cuss's less than I do. I am trying SO HARD to tone the cursing down.
I think once she is here though I will be better. I dont cuss around DD on weekends we have her, and am usually pretty solid at remembering not to when around friends kids.
But like you...knowing they can hear you...I feel guilty at times.

@MungBean: I guess I wouldn't be so concerned if I was just swearing, but it's the amount of road ragey screaming I do behind the wheel that just can't be good!

Yeah, I totally know what you mean! I tried so hard to quit swearing when I hit 20-something weeks... I toned it down a lot but L's 7.5 months old and I'm still swearing :( Really. Must. Stop.

I was involved in an unexpected family crisis for almost all of my second trimester and I did a lot of yelling and crying during that time. But, a lot of it involved me standing up for myself and voicing my concerns when people were behaving in ways I considered inappropriate, and I felt good about the fact that I was standing up for myself and protecting LO in the process (the fight was largely around her and her safety). So, she heard me yell and cry and scream a lot, but I think it was worth it.

Now that I'm 23 weeks and I know the baby can hear me, I feel so terrible anytime I yell and scream about anything. Mostly this is in the car, when I'm totally over the other drivers and flinging insults at them (with my windows up, of course) and then I instantly feel terrible, like I'm going to make my baby scared of me!

Am I being silly? Or did you make a conscious effort to tone down the crap-talking and yelling during pregnancy simply because your baby could hear you?

(Note, I might want to tone it down for the sheer fact that in 4 months, the baby will actually be here and riding in the car WITH me at some point... but that's not really my question ;)
