We don't have a TV, so we don't watch it. But I listen to newsy radio or podcasts much of the time, so they hear it. I do turn it off if it starts talking about attacks or bombings or something scary. My DD recently said "that lady said 'Donald Trump'" like it was a bad word. :silly:

We don't watch the news unless there is a major event like the election or a weather event.

I've never been a fan of watching the news. Neither has my husband. We definitely don't watch it with our daughter. We pretty much just read enough of the news to keep up to date with current events.

@Corduroy: I listen to NPR all the time with them in the car. It's not graphic and depressing like local news and not fear-mongering like cable news.

We don't let the kids watch the news because DD keeps her eyes glued to the TV regardless of what is playing. My in laws insist on watching it like clockwork which has created some issues. Last time they visited DH grabbed the remote and turned off the TV because DD was watching a segment about a gruesome murder with MIL and SIL (a teacher). They got it when DH shut off the TV and DD asked a ton of questions about what she saw but FIL doesn't care.

I do listen to NPR in front of the kids though. They've never commented on it so I think they aren't listening but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough that I'm wrong.

My husband streams the evening news every morning with his breakfast. Sometimes my toddler watches it with him. I'm not sure if we'll change that as she gets older. This morning it warned of "traumatic images" so I'm glad it's only on his laptop and not on our tv.

Do you avoid watching the news when kids are around? I feel like it's so much violence and adult content that I don't watch it when the kids are around. I miss watching the news in the evening and Sunday mornings.
