I'm working up til the end too, so thanks for starting this thread :) I think I will have to start carrying a change of clothes & some towels around with me now.

@aunt pol: I plan on working until my water breaks so I'll have maximum time off after the baby is born. Maybe I'll work from home towards the end.

@banana: I'm actually thinking of sitting on my dog's wee wee pads!

I plan to work right up until I go into labor so I am a little concerned about it, but I try not to worry too much about. A lot of people have told me their contractions started first so they had some warning and often times people go into labor at night?
I'm hoping and praying that I go into labor at night or on a weekend.

My water gushed out (literally gushed) at night in the middle of the night. I was just really happy I wasn't out in public or at work. But yeah...i felt a "pop" and then water gushed everywhere, just like the movies! The last few weeks, I would wear a pad and carry towels, just in case. But it's not common for that to happen so don't worry too much about it!

Also, here's the thing about your water breaking- it's not necessarily (or even commonly) a "big gush and now it's all out" kinda thing. I think the initial breakage varies significantly in quantity and drama, but it's not like you could change clothes and just stay dry- there's going to be some ongoing leakage no matter what. If it really freaks you out, maybe keep extra clothes and a towel in your car or office or something?

my water broke when I woke up to start the day, so I was lucky enough not to be out and about. But i had the same concerns and wore a pad the last few days whenever i went out. I will say to keep a change of clothes, especially underwear, maxipads and a small hand towel with you just in case. I had both a pad and towel to sit on but by the time I got to the hospital, I was soaked. Sorry for the tmi.

This is totally anecdotal evidence, but a lot of the women I know (myself included) whose labors began with their water breaking (no prior contractions) had it happen at night, once they had lain down to go to sleep.
There were pregnant women and new moms all over my workplace, so I kind of figured that if this happened to me, everyone would be amused but no one would hold it against me, plus I had friends that I knew would help me out. It's probably not a bad idea in general to have a change of clothes at the office- I wet myself a little by sneezing more than once during pregnancy...

Are you planning on working right up to your due date? I know most first babies here tend to run late, so most women would already have left work before this is likely... I agree with you though, it doesn't sound like a lot of fun!

I keep having these weird nightmares/anxious thoughts about my water breaking while at the office. I know that the big splash doesn't happen to everybody and more often just in movies. I'd like to hear from you guys about going into labor while at work and how you dealt with that. Did you go home first or straight to the hospital? Did you keep a change of clothes at the office?
