Yes! Ginger ale is totally a fluid too, drink it if you can't deal with water! I don't know why, but plain water tasted absolutely awful and smelled worse to me in first trimester. Carbonated drinks didn't have that awful smell, and ginger ale was the best!

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear you've been feeling so sick!
I would talk to my doctor for suggestions. You may find an IV helpful.

Hot water helped me - maybe because it was soothing and I could only sip a little at a time? I drank ginger green tea and mint tea for the same reason. I went through an iced diet McDonalds sweet tea phase and a lot of milky hot decaf black tea. Blue Powerade and Red or Lemon Gatorade also helped.

I agree that you shouldn't hesitate to ask for IV fluids, if you're feeling dehydrated. I did that twice and felt so much better for about three days each time.

@littlebug: yep this was me. Ice cold made it worse, warm water for some reason felt better. Maybe gentler on the stomach? And I've heard cold water is harder for the body to process. (No idea if true).
And I did a lot of Gatorade.

I know it feels weird to not drink water, but just drink whatever you can until you're feeling better! I couldn't drink water from 6-12 weeks, then I could only stomach bubbly water for weeks after that. Even now, at 21 weeks, I can't drink more than about 16 ounces of water per day without feeling off. Hang in there!

I think as long as you're able to drink something everything will be ok. If you get really dehydrated then you may need IV fluids. But ginger ale vs water isn't something I would worry about right now.

In the first trimester I could stomach water only if it had lots of lemon and lime in it. I drank a lot of lemonade, ginger ale, and iced tea. I truly believe you do what you have to do to get through it. The baby is going to be just fine!

What @Rockies11 said was true for me as well - Coke was one of the only things I could stomach. My doctor preferred me being caffeinated to me vomiting and needing IVs constantly!

Pre-pregnancy, I always struggled drinking water. Unless I was dying of thirst. I drank lots of juice, sodas or anything that didn't have a weird after taste (like iced tea). I know it's a lot of sugar but I needed to stayed hydrated. I'm at 25 weeks and I'm finally drinking water. I can finally tolerate it. I like Arrowhead water. I tried Desani water and hated the taste. DH said he prefers Desani water. Maybe try different brands.

Oh, there was a phase where I could only stomach a McDonald's coke. Canned coke was too carbonated but fountain sodas were just right. It helped with my nausea on some days.

I could only tolerate ice water too. Drinking seltzer cut with plain water helped (straight seltzer was too fizzy for me somehow) over tons and tons of ice. This too shall pass!

What about adding sliced fresh ginger to your water (or trying plain carbonated water)? Or trying different temps (hot water with lemon, ice cold, room temp, Etc?

Good luck!

@littlebug: I barfed water for a while and it was suggested to me to put citrus in it, but that made the nausea and vomiting worse for me. I could keep down artificially flavored water though. Like Dannon lemon flavored bottles. You do what you gotta do, regardless of what it is.

@littlebug: I had this happen, and it's actually pretty common with HG pregnancies. I know a lot of people who only drank ginger ale or slurpees or coke for the whole HG pregnancy and had perfectly fine babies. So do what works, and don't worry about it.
