LO is 10 months and we just tried a straw cup yesterday and she did great with it! I hope your LO takes to it too.
We have three solid meals and she has water at each meal. I also have her sippy around the house when playing or take it if we are on walks and offer water regularly. It's hard to judge how much BM she drinks but she nurses about 7 times a day. I don't think it's more than 20oz though of BM because she's super quick and a couple of those sessions are before naps and she only nurses for a minute.
I found when we first started giving her water she didn't really take to it, but I kept offering and now she drinks quite a bit each day, especially now that it's hot out!

@illumina: dd does like straw better than sippy... I just ordered a Zoli cup so hopefully that helps! She wants nothing to do with her sippy any more

@Seattlemom: @birdofafeather: @Pumuckl: @tysonja: @Charm54: thank you all :) I just ordered her a straw cup to see if that helps. We use a sippy at the moment with mixed results...most of the time she drinks a few sips with the meal but the other day she actually had ~3oz of water with breakfast. So maybe she does know to drink more if she is thirsty!

We are doing 3 meals a day, and her formula has reduced to about 20-22 oz.

She hates water and won't take anymore than a sip or two :(

I'm going to try WCM soon and see how it goes!

my first LO was pretty much exactly as you described. I found he would only take tiny amts of water, and didn't do well with sippy cups or straw cups at that age. we just offered water and milk more often (every bit counts!), and sometimes we would spoon feed him water or milk. he actually ended up taking to an open cup before he mastered the straw cup (WAY later).

also, when it finally got legitimately hot, he started drinking more water on his own. guess he could finally feel the thirst! oh and I fed him lots of juicy fruits, like watermelon :)

I was really concerned at that age too because he didn't really drink much water yet. So concerned in fact that I talked to his ped about it. He was very reassuring and told me that as long as his diapers are wet and he is happy to not force it. He'll start drinking once he needs it and to remember that solids contain fluids too. Low and behold around the year mark he finally started drinking more. Now at 14m he'll often drink close to half a liter of water a day. Before water was always available but I never forced it on him.

I offered a straw cup with water at meals and she really started taking to it! Good luck. It's hard to make sure they're hydrated.

See if she will take water better from a straw (some LOs will be able to do this at her age) cup or another type of sippy. Or even an open cup with help. Kids seems to be so picky about what kind of cup they like.

Or see if she would take watered down formula, just so you can get more water into her? With the summer heat, start offering more foods that have liquid in them, like watermelon, applesauce, etc. Will she eat soup?

For the constipation avoid white foods like banana, potato, rice, cheese, white bread. And also cooked carrots. Give more veggies, prune/plum, peach, pears. My LO loves prune puree mixed with yogurt :)

So last month I asked the Bee about how much solids/formula to give at 8 months and I think we were on track with 2 meals and 24oz formula. So now we are still pretty much on 2 meals a day...though sometimes I'll offer another around 5pm if she didn't eat much for lunch.

But the issue is that she's reduced her formula intake down to around 16-18oz per day. Today she did drink 19oz but 9oz of that was after 5.30pm (we didn't do dinner today). I'm worried because it's starting to get warm here and she's barely drinking any water...literally a few sips with solid meals just doesn't seem enough.

Her nappies aren't quite as wet as they used to be and she was pretty constipated all day today until late afternoon when she did poo, but it was more solid than usual.

I'm worried she's getting dehydrated but I don't know how to get her to drink more water/formula!
