We are huge Orvis dog bed fans! They wash like new and hold up so well. We spent a lot of money on cheaper beds that always went to crap within a few months. We've had our Orvis bed for years.

In the meantime...when our dog was young and used to pee on her bed we put a garbage bag as a waterproof liner between the cover and pillow. Hey, it was cheap and worked!

ETA: Harry Barker has Piddle Proof Covers to go between the cover and insert!

I have one of these for our dog's crate. It has a waterproof/resistant top layer and the cover is washable.
Might be a good option! Plus there are always codes to get a discount and free shipping over $49 order.

My first thought was Orvis: http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=4A63

They have waterproof liners as well. I would also look into elevated beds like the Coolaroo. My last dog loved hers!

@bluestriped bee: yeah I was looking at the molly mutt one on amazon but it has awful reviews :(

@nana87: I originally started out by looking at orvis!!! gonna visit the store nearby and see if they have any I can look at. The LL Bean beds aren't waterproof :( whyyyyy???

@MrsBrewer: that is amazing!!! haha!! Would you be able to make one out of a completely waterproof material, then make a washable cover?? That way I could just zip off the cover and wash it, and just wipe down the bed itself. Orrrr... maybe you could make the bed out of a good sturdy material, then a cover out of waterproof material, then a cover that is comfy/cozy/pretty?? I would totally be into a custom order! How much are you looking to charge?? Wall me!! :D

@bluestriped bee: My dogs are both very small (6 lbs and 13 lbs) but this is for their "crate", which is basically a huge play yard in the kitchen. Instead of several small beds I'd be looking for one big bed that can line most of the cage. So they basically lay on this all day when we're not home, and sleep on it at night.

We have a dogsac (micrfiber cover i wouldnt recommend it because of the price), the cover is washable and I put a waterproof mattress cover under the cover so its extra protection. We had a dog that had seizures and would pee on his bed when it happened. I would throw the cover and mattress pad in the wash and it was good as new.

So maybe you can put a waterproof mattress pad over your pup's bed?

@mrs. wagon: How big are your dogs? If they are small, you could just simply buy some pillow protectors that are washable and waterproof.

we get our dog beds from Orvis--they're a little pricey but super durable, we've had one for over 5 years and our dogs still fight over it (and ignore the other one, haha)! they have some outdoor ones that I would assume are waterproof. or, my in-laws go with L. L. Bean, which are similar but I don't know if they have outdoor/waterproof ones...

@mrs. wagon: Target has some dog beds that you buy the parts separately. Like the bedding/pad, the waterproof cover and the soft cover. I bought a set when it went on clearance about two months ago.

I can't find them online but here is the cover that I purchased. http://www.target.com/p/boots-barkley-solid-pet-bed-cover/-/A-14023352#prodSlot=medium_1_5

So this isn't about kids, but it's about furkids, so it totally belongs on Hellobee, right?? ;)

So I am in desperate search of a dog bed that we can keep for more than 6 months. One of our dogs vomits at least twice a week, and both our dogs shed like crazy, so we find ourselves washing the dog bed frequently. We went through probably 20 cheapo dog beds before we finally got one that we can just throw in the wash, but it's still really gross...

What I REALLY want is either:

1) A dog bed with a waterproof AND washable cover

or

2) A waterproof dog bed insert with a washable cover.

Any ideas?!? I'm this close to figuring out how to sew and making my own!! Why doesn't this exist?? Everything I've found on google and on amazon has these reviews saying "NOT waterproof" or "zippers fell apart after first wash" or "grippy knobs on bottom side of cover fall off in the dozens"... gahhhhhhhhh
