@gingerbebe: I've already started keeping all my eyes peeled at those stores for things I can use. I generally have a "fun box" outside in the summer...in case we end up having an unplanned "play date" with neighbors so I can let the kids grab something to play with. So I am always prowling for cheap deals...now just a new angle! Good ideas!

@misolee: Great idea...we will have at least one night in the park so I'll make sure to grab some of these!

@looch: I do this too...I love it. Plus - it really does cut down on the things you buy on vacation! All great ideas...love the family board game idea!

@Charm54: Thanks for this feedback! I assumed, being that it was disney, they would do what they could for DD2, but its good to hear! Cant wait to hear all about the trip! And hopefully see pics!

I wasn’t organized enough to do a gift a day but before we left the girls each got a princess pillowcase for the hotel, autograph book, new Pjs and a gift card. I think their pillowcases are their favourite.

I did BBB yesterday with my oldest and I was worried my 2yo would feel left out. We got her a dress and “did” her hair as best we could, then my DH took her to get her face painted while her big sister went to the BBB. It was super cute and she loved it! When we went back to watch her big sister the fairy godmother sprinkled dd2 with pixie dust so she didn’t feel like she missed out on anything.

One of my favorite things about vacation planning is the vacation gifts. I do it for all vacations (it sounds like overkill, but really it's once a year and it helps spread out the birthday/christmas month for us). I use a basic gift bag (I am not organized enough to do a decorated/themed one) and it's always super fun for me to compile and my son to open.

I typically buy a new set of themed pajamas, a tee shirt, coloring/sticker book for each trip. I will add in things like bath paints or bath crayons, fun bubble bath, sunglasses, a visor/hat depending upon the destination. I love learning manipulative, so I will often include things like an extension of Rory's Story cubes or math dice. I also do art supplies, like a set of watercolor paint brushes and a palette. Sometimes, I will do things like themed socks or a personal care item, such as a wallet. My focus tends not to be on all themed and inexpensive, but more towards skill building or related to my son's interests.

I also will do a new family game of some kind to help pass the time in the hotel room.

We recently went to Universal Studios and I bought a pack of HP playing cards and a paper airplane kit. I also for this trip let him buy a book to bring back that I would read for a mystery reader day and then donate to the class.

I also purchased a scrapbook kit so he could put his photos into a book on his own. I specifically picked the theme to coordinate with the character breakfast.

One thing I did, was hit up Dollar store, Walmart, and 5below for glow in the dark, light up toys. Once it hits night, those things come out everywhere at Disney and not worth the $$ but kids want them! Esp if you’re watching the night fireworks.

My friend is a hardcore Disney fan and she basically trolls flash sales, Hollar.com, the dollar store, Target Dollar Spot, etc. to find cheap Disney merch (so she never buys things on property or at the parks). She has it for them in the morning before they go to the parks in reusable Disney character shopping bags. She focuses on cheapy things that aren't a huge deal if they get lost during the day at the parks (common) and/or things that will keep her kids occupied or happy during long waits in line. Notebooks/pads with pens or crayons are a good one, since they can draw and also they can get autographs if they run into a character. Sunglasses, small stuffed animals, character t-shirts, socks, water bottles, cheapie coin purses, stickers, etc.

She generally saves the more expensive Disney merch for holidays/birthdays after the trip.

She also allows her children to pick 1 pin to commemorate the visit at the end of the trip.

For me...we are planning our first trip to Disney in November (2018). Our girls will be 5 and 2.5 at the time we go. Full on Princess Obsession mode here. I'm still playing with some ideas...but so far here is where I have landed...

I'm planning to do gifts at night...with little notes in the morning. I am doing it this way to use it as incentive for good behavior...Since I am planning it so far in advance I am hoping to snag many of these items on sale/super sale!

*Travel Day: Small gift probably right when we get on the airplane (kind of thinking movies on their ipads) saying its to help them behave on the airplane so they can earn their first gift.

*Travel Day (evening): Special princess night gowns. Planning to snag these on sale this summer.

*Bippity Boppity day....they'll get princess dresses this day. DD2 wont be old enough to go to the salon so she'll get a tiara to wear too.

*Autograph Albums...early in trip

*I think on the last morning we may do paper and crayons to they can color the thing the found at WDW that they want the most. We plan to get them whatever this is for Christmas...since we are going so close to Christmas this trip will largely be their gift...so Christmas morning we want to get them a reminder of it...

*Pool Day accessories...

*Special Food treat...we'll snag something at the park with our extra "snack" credits...think we'll do this the night we have a less than stellar dinner planned...maybe Pizza night...

*Special Food Treat...on the airplane home too...also extra snack credits!

So...who wants to talk Tinkerbell gifts?

As I understand ... tinkerbell gifts (also called Mickey Gifts) are little items you bring with you and leave out for your kiddos either at the beginning of the day or the end of the day to enhance their Disney experience. (Also - could be used to encourage good behavior, save on souvenirs purchased on site, etc)...

What have you done like this? Any awesome ideas?

Or what are you planning? Would love to brain storm off others here!
