Congratulations!!

I am still EBF and working FT (shes 9 months). It is a lot of work but so worth it to have that time together in the mornings and evenings. My husband helps where he can which is making sure my pump parts are clean and packing the bottles for daycare.

@Nskillet: yay!! Go you!!
I totally know the feeling! We had so many feeding concerns particularly with bfing. It was so great to see at her second well visit that she gained 15oz from her last visit a week ago!
It was great to hear from the ped that whatever we are doing is wonderful and to keep doing it!

When is your next well visit? Mine isn't until 8wks but I wish there was one sooner!

@Nskillet: The baby is much more effective at emptying the breast than your pump is. I can pump until NOTHING more comes out, then Liv can nurse and be gulping. If you are getting 2oz per breast, that is a normal amount for right now in the early days. But definitely get checked for flange sizes. The correct size can really help.

I have a freezer stash and I also actively pump. I didnt start building my freezer supply until Liv was about a month old and on more of a "schedule" (aka not latched on like 17 hours a day.) I started freezing in 2-4oz increments just to get it started. Its nice to have a freezer stash, but what I do is pump at work for the next day. On fridays, I scald (I have excess lipase) and freeze that milk, and on Monday use some of the older frozen milk so it gets rotated. Your body adjusts your milk for the calories and fats your baby needs right then, so my pedi told me to always use what I pump for the next day and slowly cycle through the frozen stuff.

I came back to work at 3 months. I pump just about every 2 hours to maintain my supply. Its taken a little bit of a hit now, but I think thats bc Liv is 10 months old and only really nursing 3-4 times a day max. The breaks arent bad for me, and now Im in a groove where start to finish it takes less than 15 minutes. I watch videos of her on my phone to speed up letdown, and I dont was the pump parts between each session. I empty the bottles into a larger storage bottle, then refrigerate it all until the next pumping session and repeat. After my last session, I wash them out and use the medela sterilizer bag.

Pumping at work is a LOT of work. And there are days Im SO over it, but I know Im not over BFing yet so I keep on going.

@LivsMama: How do you keep up? Do you pump/have a stash? Is it tough taking constant breaks at work? Has your supply dropped? Abbey will go to day care FT in July so I want to start building a stash if I can but it seems each time I sit to pump she wakes up wanting to nurse. I also need to modify my pump, I have huge boobs and think the flanges are too small so IM not maximizing output. The sessions I have pumped Ive only gotten maybe 2oz per breast but baby seems very very satisfied so I must be making more right?

@Nskillet: I nurse while working full time. I can give ya some tips there. And you're right. I had no intention of BFing before Liv was born. I told the nurses I didnt want to, my decision was made. Aaaand then the second she was born, I became a mom and this instinct kicked in and I knew I NEEDED to try it. I had alot of trouble at first too, and I was so frustrated that it wasnt coming natural, but I kept at it. And like you, I supplemented for the first few weeks (6 or 8) until she moved to EBF. That little bit of supplementing, along with pumping so DH could give her a bottle, was a huge HUGE help. Liv is 10 months old and still nursing.

YAY! I'm so happy for you! That's one of the pieces of advice I give my first time mommy friends. That even though BFing hurts like heck at first, keep at it (if BFing is important to you)! It's worth it in the end. :) You just need to give your boobies a break once in a while to heal but if you keep going, they'll work! Glad to hear that you're having such a great bond with your baby! :)

@LivsMama: Girl, and you werent into it to begin with right!?! THANK YOU for the props! I feel like superwoman right now!

DH said "glad you got motivation right now, it'll last a week" lol!! I have been very paranoid about not doing things right, getting tired and feeling overwhelmed. I have to say adding a few bottle feedings of formula made all the difference for me in the world. I gave myself a break when I needed it.

I feel so amazing today, and I love the bonding I get with my daughter. She loves to nurse, but also takes the bottle for me or my DH too.

Breastfeeding is one of the hardest things in the world but it so rewarding when you see results in your child. I find that letting myself say out loud I want to quit or need a break helps immensely.

For all you long term nursing Moms, share your success!! You are amazing!

Anyne still nursing while working FT? That is going to be my major hurdle come July when I head back to the real world.

I promise, you have lots of incredible moments ahead with it. Just remember, you might go through another rough patch. And if you do, remember this feeling. It makes muscling through it all worth it =o)

I am so flipping excited. We had our 3rd baby well visit today and LO is gaining weight like a champ!

Birth: 7lbs 2oz

Discharge: 6lbs 6oz

First appt 2 days after discharge: 6lbs 9oz

2nd appt week after discharge: 6lbs 13oz

Today at 2 weeks 4 days old: 7lbs 8oz!

My boobs are working! I wanted to throw the towel in so many times these past 2 weeks but I'm more motivated than ever now. My baby girl is growing and my body (plus 4-6oz of enfamil newborn) a day is doing what it should.

To all you new boob feeders out there dont give up on yourself! Your supply isn't drying up, and when those nips hurt give them a break and then keep on keeping on! (if you want to).

P.S. the new MIB iced coffee from Dunkin donuts is delicious!
