I have had concerns about my sons speech since he was 18 months old. I have years of experience with 18 month - 5 year old and I just felt something was off. He was at a preschool that did speech with the kids so I didn't worry too much. At 2 we moved him to a different school and brought up my concerns to the pediatrician. Since he used 2 word sentences and he said words (even if we couldn't understand him) he was fine.</p> <p>So I pursued a private therapist for speech evaluation because I wanted to be told I was crazy. He was 6 months behind in expressive speech. We started private therapy. About a month in he had his first ear infection, on antibiotics he went from 2 word sentences to 4 and 5 word sentences. Then within 3 weeks of being off antibiotics his speech teacher couldn't understand the words he said the week before.</p> <p>All of his hearing tests were normal. But we decided to do tubes for speech because of abnormal typanograms. He has had tubes for 5 weeks and he just wasn't making the huge leaps and bounds we had hoped. We have our IEP meeting this Friday. I am so excited for the support and validation. We still have to do private care for the summer but after that we can combine it with school district support. We have to move the IEP to his new school district but at least we can start right away in the fall.</p> <p>I have heard so many horror stories about not getting qualified so I am definitely surprised he qualified and so quickly. </p>
