I'm so sorry you're dealing with colic.

I once read on a blog somewhere (forget which blog) that because colicky babies are inconsolable, the most you can do as a parent is make sure they are fed, clean and safe. one parent said she would just watch movies with the subtitles on and hold her baby until he fell asleep.

I have also heard that a vacuum cleaner or hair dryer works wonders! My friend said she had her vacuum running for 5 hours straight once because as soon as she turned it off her LO would start crying again.

Thanks everyone!
We have a swing at the new house we plan to bring back and assemble and try out.

She liked swaddling the first couple days but no longer likes it. Side holding works for a few minutes and that's it. So far the best thing really is either holding her upright or cradling, walking around and shushing. Depending on the minute. :)

I have heard of the washer technique will have to try it next time she has a fit!

I'm not really sure the 5s will work for her honestly. We already do a lot of the things with the exception of the swing. My nipple use to work for comfort nursing to calm her down but this week she also seems to be on a nursing strike as well and likes to freak out on the boob.

On the bright side if she is a colicky child we're a quarter of the way there! :)

I used to Nanny for a family and the youngest was colicky. The mother was at her wits end about what to do, so I called my mother and she suggested putting her close to the washing mashine or hoover when they were switched on (that's what she did with each of us apparently). For some reason that always worked to calm her down.

Oh no.... so sorry that you have to go throught that! LO had reflux so she would scream for hours, and nothing would help. We tried everything. Holding and rocking her, swing, walks in the stroller, car rides, the 5 S's from the happiest baby on the block, etc. Then I finally realized that it was probably reflux and I took her to the doctor for meds, life was so much better after that! Also, it helped not to put her on her belly or back after a feeding, instead we kept her upright. Hope your LO gets over the colick soon!

DS had colic so bad. I'd say it lasted until about 4 months too. Mylicon drops and swaddling helped but sometimes there was nothing I could do. He would just cry and cry. He hated the swing. It was miserable for everyone.

I hope you can figure something out to help her!

We had a "colicky" baby. I think I did a blog post on it if you want to check on it, but the short answer is make sure you have some child care or break time scheduled for you and please learn the lessons from "Happiest Baby on the Block". Gotta run right now, but I'll try to link and say more later.

LO was very colicky and I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!!!!!!!! I really want to cry for you, it's so tough!

- LO's colicky phase ended abruptly at just over 4 months (maybe 4.5 months?). It was almost like a light switch...Just one day, suddenly, I realized she hadn't cried for hours and I was shocked.
- LO HATED the swing. The only thing that settled her was long car rides. The amount of money spent on gas and the number of kilometers put on my car (yes, kilometers, not miles! LOL...Canadians...) is astronomical. Hubs and I would take turns driving - 11pm was usually our first car drive....Then again at 2-3am....And sometimes again at 6-7am. It was brutal.

I agree with @Coco Bee, try a swing! I bought our swing based on reviews that said their colicky baby only calmed down and slept in this swing, so it slept in the swing every nap and night for SIX MONTHS. no joke. We have the fisher price papasan swing! I think our version is My Little Lamb but there's probably a new version out now.

Everyone baby is different, the family I nannyed for had a colicky first daughter. From weeks 2-14 I think. They said the swing was a lifesaver - it was the only place she calmed down or slept. I only know a little bit about it from her. I'm so sorry!! I hope she gets better soon.

Uh oh...we might have a colicky baby on our hands!

The Friday before last I called my peds bc I though baby had a lot of gas. She would cry a lot and bring her knees to her stomach. Seemed like classic gassy baby symptoms. So I spoke with a nurse and they reco'd mylicon drops. We got it and it seemed to help over the weekend. Well last week we went back to fussy baby. Usually around 4/5 she would cry/shrill almost non stop until about 1am. Fed, changed etc and nothing seemed to help.

Finally we decided we would bring her to the peds again just to make sure there's not something wrong.

The dr checked her over and she has no stomach issues he can see. The formula we have tried is what he would have told parents to try with their baby.
Basically she either has really bad gas or is colicky. Probably latter even though I'm hoping she's just going through a fussy stage.

Does anyone else have a colicky baby?
What works for you to stop the crying?
When did it stop for you!?? I read 4 months!!!

Oh well I'll take a healthy colicky baby any day over a sick baby!
