I night weaned at 2, I had to stop nursing in her bed/bedroom. We talked it over for a few days- you get your Milkies here (in the living room) and if you go all night without milkies you get a treat (sticker, Starbucks date, gum). After a week she was still waking up 1-2x a week, but knew she'd just get a hug and back rubs for a minute.

H was upset when we weaned at 21 months. We had to avoid sitting on my bed for about two weeks (that was the place she got her milkies). After that, it was fine.

I think the more you let her scream, and then eventually give in, you're reinforcing that screaming works. I think you need to just tell your husband to buck up and deal with 2-3 really awful nights, until she gets the message that it's not an option. It won't be fun for anyone, but it should be short lived and effective.

I'm sorry! When I weaned at 22 months, lo was upset on and off for about 2 days but not unmanageably so. By then I had already limited nursing to one chair, rather than nursing wherever on demand, and my supply had plummeted already so it was just comfort nursing really. And dh regularly put her to bed (our routine was I nursed, "dada rock" after). When I was finally ready I stopped cold turkey. I remember it helped a little to snuggle with her lying in my arms on our glider, almost in a nursing position, but with a sippy (not straw cup) of milk. We replaced nursing time with reading books and snuggling that way, she still drinks milk

For the last one, I had to have DH really step it up and step in. A mix of CIO and him holding him to sleep. It sucked because he's such a stubborn one, but I was so done.

Empathetic bump. We ended up doing CIO at night, and I bailed at bedtime for several days (moms night out, errands) to drop that one. We're still nursing one or two more times a day than I'd like.

I stopped nursing except for the morning session and it did involve some crying but just for a few days. We weren't nursing overnight anymore so it was the afternoon when she wanted to nurse constantly.

What worked for us was never sitting down with her, wearing a hoodie, and offering juice and snacks instead of nursing.

Following... I'm in the same boat. My 20 month old loves the boob. Since he learned how to speak his favorite phrase is "have boo boo" and "lie down". He nurses to sleep. I really want to wean him as he is only nursing at this point to sleep but nothing really works. It's so frustrating. I keep putting it off and I don't have the heart for CIO....

My daughter is 19 months. It's easy enough to distract her during the day, but she's cutting her last few canines and NOTHING works at night except for nursing.

I. Am. Over. It.

She also screams if I send my husband in, instead. Nothing works. We came home from a wedding late last weekend and my dad had her in the living room playing because she was so out of control with the screaming.

HELP!!

We have a small one level, so even though it wakes everyone up, I've even tried CIO out of desperation..girl is stubborn. She doesn't stop screaming.
