@fussygal: oh yes, I do feel like we are always eating. He loves food more than cups so for us it was an easy way to distract him from nursing during the day. But he will eat Cheerios on the go if he needs to too. it was tough for a few weeks while we both adjusted. I usually nurse him as soon as I get home from work just to make my life easier can and that one has been toughest to drop. Consistency is so hard!

I did a combination of "don't offer, don't refuse" and major distraction when I dropped feeds around 13 months. We were having serious weight gain issues and our ped wanted us to wean completely. We were actually able to keep one feed until 19 months, but we dropped most of the feeds within one week.

When LO woke up, we used to feed. Instead, I whisked him into his high chair for something easy I knew he loved (cheerios or blueberries or something). Then we played. Repeat whenever necessary. It was a high-energy week or so. I did feed if he asked (well, sometimes I'd try to distract once, but not more than that), but really he didn't ask that often when we stayed high-energy and I offered alternatives.

Good luck!

We weaned at about 11 months and transitioned to WCM in a straw cup. We skipped regular bottles entirely. DD was on-demand, snacking especially after naps, but I would just head right downstairs after a diaper change and give her a cup of milk. She didn't really have much trouble with the change, but it was hard on me  .

@gilmoregirl: She's good with a cup so we'll try incorporating that into a more regular snack time and see if that helps! I've been putting off having a regular snack time because I was worried that adding it to the mix would make it feel like we're always eating haha. But if it helps wean it might be worth it until we're down a few feedings.

@fussygal: does she drink ok from a cup? My guy never took a bottle either and has been picky about cups so we replaced nursing with food snacks right in between meals. We kinda match his daycare schedule of 9:30 and 2:30 snack time. I offer milk or water in a cup and he drinks what he wants, but he also has some food available to him as well. It took a little while to stick, but he drinks more milk from the cup now. He still nurses 1-2x a day.

At 13 months, I would just transition to her drinking anything in between meals. If she's hungry and you aren't nursing she'll up her solids intake. Upping hemp/almond milk intake is a double edge sword because it decreases appetite. We increased WCM and then quickly cut it back because he wasn't eating very good meals.

we are in the process of weaning, but LO didn't really take a bottle and drinks mostly water during the day while i'm gone. we didn't push the milk (i'm not sure we could have, honestly!) but she's taken a bit more milk now that i'm withholding the nursing more. we've focused less on milk and more on distracting her from nursing and redirecting her attention. once she realizes she's not nursing, she generally looks to eat more solids and drink more water. we're going very slowly though and i'm clearly far from an expert on this!

When I day-weaned, I stopped offering. It coincided with me pump weaning. She's in daycare five days a week, so she got used to no bottles pretty quickly and I didn't offer at home. We are down to one session and I don't see us giving that up any time soon because the girl loves her milkies.

Please share your weaning experiences! I'd like to start slowly encouraging DD to wean (13 months), but I'm not 100% sure where to start. In my mind I'm stumbling through the logistics of the process.

She's BF on-demand and even though she eats three meals of solid food per day, she is still nursing quite often. She never took a bottle well so in her mind a bottle/sippy doesn't = meal, but rather a snack she may or may not drink. I'm assuming that will make it a bit difficult to slowly cut one feeding at a time by simply swapping a BFing session with WCM (or hemp/almond milk for our MSPI babe).

Did you straight up substitute a session with WCM or did it just become a "supporting role" to larger solid meals? Other advice?
