When DD would ask to nurse I would offer her cup of milk or water and snuggles. Granted she was 21 months and my supply was drying up thanks to pregnancy so it was more about comfort than hunger or thirst. She doesn't usually care if it's water or milk but can vocalize the preference.

When I was weaning Xander, I just gave him milk with his meals, and then if he seemed like he wanted to nurse, I'd tell him no, but offer him a sippy with milk instead. He caught on pretty quick that we weren't nursing anymore.

We gave her a sippy cup of milk at her last session time (right after she woke up) and it was fine. I was in the shower, so she took it well. After that, we had to avoid our normal routine (diaper, nursing in my bed) for a few weeks because she would get very upset with the sippy cup of milk rather than my boobs.

So LO is 14.5 mo old and I stopped pumping at work at 12 mo, my frozen stash runs out next week. She's had WCM without any issue (only drinks from straw cup, dropped bottle at 11 mo randomly). We've been working on night weaning which has worked for the past several nights and she is so close to STTN! I had always planned on having her self-wean, but really thought it would be sooner, and while I'm not opposed to extended BF we want to TTC in the spring and I need some time between BF and being pregnant!

So I'm working on slowly dropping sessions over the next few months. Right now she nurses AM waking, 9am, before nap, after nap, (early evening) <- dropping, before bed. I've tried to model it around her daycare schedule with their meal/snack times, so she's not nursing on demand anymore (though I will give in if she is super persistent!).

My question is, the sessions I've dropped so far (MOTN and the after daycare/before dinner time) were times that she really wasn't hungry, so it's been easier to phase out and they're not being replaced with WCM. For the other sessions, how do I bring in WCM and replace nursing? Like in the morning she eats breakfast and nurses probably in the same hour, but not right together. So I feel like if I gave her milk with breakfast she'd still want to nurse later. She does fine at daycare like that but having her food source around is hard!

tl;dr: Slow weaning at 14.5 mo. How did you drop BF sessions and add in WCM?
