We try to deny and redirect but my kid doesn't forget. I stopped pumping at 12 months old but nursed weekends and at home just fine. If you just wanna stop pumping. We are having a hard time weaning right now. Daddy has to step up.

@littleveesmommy: it's kinda odd but even though I was able to stop pumping during the day I still nursed a few times during the day on the weekends. Eventually she associated milk with bedtime so if she asks I just say no its not night night time.

I'm currently working on nursing my toddler less. I'm not sure how old yours is, but my 16 month old is pretty verbal, so she usually does ok with 'not now, later'. I always follow that with a fun distraction, which usually works. I can't really get away with laying down, which is how we usually nurse, unless I want to do it. You may consider not sitting/laying in your usual nursing spot when you're not willing to nurse.

I had started the weaning process two weeks ago when I began having my mom mix her daytime bottles with 1/2 whole milk M-Th while I continued to EBF on weekends. I pump once a day midday during work and want to stop pumping in the next couple weeks, so I think I need to transition DD to whole milk on weekends too. First transition day (yesterday) was tough as she did not want a bottle from me! She kept pointing at my chest and signing 'milk'. I felt bad denying her. Since I'm only pumping once a day I am nursing her only once during the day and giving her bottles the other two times. We did that again today and she was better about taking the bottle from me but she had a REALLY crappy nap day. Did this happen when you weaned? Am I pushing it too hard? How did you redirect LO's request to nurse?

I want to continue nursing morning and bedtimes as long as she'd like but would like to drop daytime sessions. Any tips on the transition?
