I need a white noise machine to sleep so I don't see a reason to wean DS!

My nephews are 5 years old and still use a white noise machine. My almost 2 year old niece requires a fan and a white noise machine. My brother jokes that it's as loud as an airplane hangar in there. LO sleeps great with his white noise machine and has since he was colicky.

Perfect! Of all of the sleep associations we've created, (swaddle, white noise, etc.), it's definitely the one I'm least worried about.
That said, the "thump THUMP" of the noise may get old eventually...

We don't plan on weaning from it here. It's not like nursing or rocking to sleep. It's a different kind of (sustainable) sleep association that won't do any harm by sticking around.

No plans to wean. We all sleep better with it on. In fact I will have to get another when we move him out of our room.

No plans to wean here! I don't mind it and I figure adults sleep with white noise (or ear plugs for me!) so there is really no negative if it helps her sleep.

DD used one for about 8 weeks, and then we noticed that it just didn't make a difference. We tried one day to get rid of it cold turkey, and there was absolutely no difference in her sleep. She's now 4 months and doesn't use it at all.

We use white noise (the sleep setting on gentle giraffe) and I don't plan to stop - in fact, I think I'm going to buy a plug-in one! It drowns out the dog like others have said...and I sleep better with it too, so I imagine she does.

Maybe switch to a more neutral sound rather than the heartbeat? We run an air purifier in LO's room and that is hs white noise.

My LO is 8 months and we still use it for every nap and night-time sleep. I have turned down the volume to a pretty low level gradually over the past couple months, though. And just yesterday we moved the machine to a bookshelf that's further away from his crib - he slept fine, though.

No plans to wean here - I sleep better as an adult with white noise so I don't know why I'd take it away from him. It doesn't completely mask noises like our dog so I feel like he's getting the best of both worlds.

I never used white noise for my first baby, but my second baby needed it... She still does for the most part at 20 months, but there are nights she's so tired, but not overtired, and she doesn't need it.

To wean them off of it, you could start by decreasing the volume in intervals til it's virtually pretty quiet.

Our LO's have slept with the white noise machine (on the heartbeat sound) since they were about 5 weeks old. I'm never sure if it does anything...I can turn it off and they seem to sleep just fine, but it's so ingrained in our routine that I'm scared to turn it off before they're asleep. That said, I don't want to sleep with a fake heartbeat on the baby monitor for the rest of their lives.
When did everyone nix the white noise? Was it any big deal?
