Have you tried the new Ripple milk? It is a good source of protein and fat, and is mspi safe. It has less of the "toasty"flavor than hemp milk, so maybe that would work? It's made from yellow peas. We drink it at my house, and it's the closest to dairy we have found, and DD likes it and hates all other alternative milks. Good luck!

DS only drinks water because he doesn't like any kind of milk. His diet addresses any deficit the lack of milk creates.

@Pollywog: we did send an alternative milk (hemp milk) but after we cut bottles our oldest never really drank milk again. We still sent 1 sippy a day (it usually came home mostly full) for many months because it freaked the daycare teachers out to have a child only on water.

But our pediatrician wasn't bothered and said as long as she is getting plenty of fat and vegetables, she was fine. And we gave vitamins d supplements.

Just pack a lot of dark meat chicken (more fatty and more iron), lots of veggies, you can do coconut or almond yogurts, cereal bars, etc

Not sure if this is helpful, but what we did was to mix BM with hemp milk at first, slowly lowering the ratio. By 13 months or so, my frozen stash was gone and she would drink plain hemp milk in bottles. Then over the next few months, we tried to switch her out of bottles to cups and she started refusing anything but water out of sippy or straw cups. We basically ended up giving up all milks cold turkey due to her refusal to drink it out of a straw cup. I asked the pediatrician about it and she said it was fine as long as she got some dairy from cheese and yogurt. I was also nursing morning and evening still so we didn't worry too much about it. By 17 months, I had weaned the morning session, so DD was basically only getting water during the day, a single nursing session, and all other dairy from food.

@kiddosc: that's a great point. Maybe I could just send a snack instead (he has his milk at snack time and water at meals). He's super hydrated and eats great meals, so that could be a good option

I don't have a child with MSPI, so take this with a grain of salt, but do you have to send anything? If he's not into alternative milks, can he just drink water at meals? My 17 month old has low iron levels, so she doesn't get a lot of dairy because the calcium inhibits iron absorption. She eats well otherwise and is growing/gaining well.

I have been pumping for my 17 month old toddler so he can have 6 oz of BM at daycare. He has MSPI and hates alternative milks. He is finally starting to self wean on days at home and my freezer supply is almost gone, so I'm trying to figure out what to send in place of the milk. For others who have gone through this, did you send more snacks or try and get them onto an alternative milk? I was thinking a smoothie or a pouch, but would love ideas. Daycares suggestion is to keep pumping, which I'm not really interested in any more. We still nurse 3-4 times a day.
