@sslm: I still nurse K twice a day, but neither nursing session is at bedtime. She's always taken a bottle of pumped milk, and more recently WCM, at bedtime, but two nights ago we stopped bedtime milk cold turkey. We now do a straw cup of milk at dinner and then just water at bedtime. It had zero effect on her ability to go to sleep at night :)

As for not liking cow's milk, K took a long time to come around to it too. I actually wanted her to drink goat's milk or homemade almond, but she WOULD NOT go for either of those...so WCM it is. Anyhow, we just kept trying and after several weeks her started drinking it. She doesn't drink a ton of it though (10 oz/day), but her doc and my LC are both totally unconcerned about it, as she's a great eater and gets plenty of fat through her diet in the form of avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, butter and full-fat plain yogurt. Don't stress too much about it!

@sslm: can't hurt to try! And if she gets upset you can always nurse her. That's what I did, and then after a few days he stopped freaking out

@hilsy85: yeah I guess that's probably the first thing to try. I'm just scared she won't go to bed without it. And she's never really asked to nurse so I'm not sure how I would know she wanted it except if she threw a fit haha

I'm curious too! LO has a milk allergy but she won't drink almond or coconut milk.

@QBbride: We still give the milk on its own (at 19 months). Not sure if that's what we're supposed to be doing, but we'll give a straw cup of milk when DS wakes up in the morning at 7, one around noon after his first nap, one around 5 after his second nap, and one around 7 before bed. Now that I think about it that sounds like a lot of milk! He doesn't finish it each time though, he just takes sips while he plays. He gets water with his meals.

I just dropped it. When we dropped the bedtime nurse, I just skipped over that step. He fussed a little the first few days (and I did nurse if he asked) but then he stopped asking. But that session had been short for a while.

@sslm: formula? The only reason we gave cows instead of formula is because he refused to drink formula. Have you tried any soy or almond milks?

I substituted a straw cup of whole milk for each feeding I dropped. For the evening feeding, I gave the cup of milk about an hour before his bedtime, as it takes him a while to drink it. He didn't mind the switch at all.

I just did it this week. I just held him when I would have been nursing and sang a song to him. We're on day 5 with no nursing and it's been ok so far...

How did you do it?

I think I'm ready. We're only nursing at bedtime but not nursing to sleep. At 13 months, I feel ready to stop.
