@Pumuckl: maybe E will start dropping feedings on his own soon too. We nurse 4x a day, but he asks for it via baby sign language probably 8x a day! This kid would be nursing all day if I let him haha.

I had a similar situation with a boob loving 12m old when I fell pregnant with #2. We only nursed mornings and evenings though (he was in full time daycare) but he wouldn't go to bed without nursing. So I was dreading what was to come but then one night right at 13m he didn't root for the boob (he had been drinking a full cup of WCM after dinner for a couple of weeks at that point and still nursed). So I didn't offer and instead we just sat there and read his bedtime story, he went to sleep fine. He never asked to nurse in the evening again. Practically the same thing happened in the mornings just two weeks later. So at 13.5m he had completely weaned.

I was open to tandem nursing while pregnant but I'm so glad My first weaned. She was 20 months and nursing 1-2 times a day. We were at s point where I could say no and distract her already. I was 15 weeks pregnant or so and just over it. It was painful and there was nothing there, so I just started saying no and offering milk in a cup and snuggles. It was no big deal. I did it for the before bed session first for a few days then the morning one was easy. She never looked back and by the time baby came she sadly acts like she doesn't even remember nursing! I cannot imagine tandem nursing now that I have two!

I weaned at 22 months when I was 3 months pregnant. My lo was boob obsessed right up until I weaned. Oddly after the first day she just accepted we weren't nursing anymore and still comes to me for snuggles if she's stressed (a main time she'd have nursed before). I'm due at the end of January and I weaned beginning of August so we'll see if that was enough time in between!

@oliviaoblivia: thats what I kinda hope will happen. I do think my supply has dropped during these 3 months of pregnancy but E seems even more intent on nursing (for longer than he used to, maybe hoping more milk will come?) I guess I still have 6months to go so we will see what happens!

I did it both ways and both were fine! My older two are 20 months apart and I didn't wean my oldest. He was nursing 2 or 3 times a day when LO2 was born. He stopped nursing at bedtime because he wanted DH to put him to bed so it was normally just before naps. After a couple months he was really just playing and not nursing so we stopped right around 2 years. It was no big deal at all, he was ready to stop.
The age gap between my second and third is larger. I planned to nurse until LO2 turned 2 but I just couldn't do it any more when I was pregnant so we stopped. He was sad about it and asked for it for at least a week but we just snuggled and I gave him regular milk then and he forgot about it. He stopped nursing about 5 months before the baby and doesn't seem to remember or care that he used to.
With your LO being younger, even if you stop nursing like a month or so before the baby arrives he probably won't really remember! 1 month for an 18 month old is a long time!

I wanted to tandem nurse, but pregnancy made my supply drop and my then ten month old quit on me.
Nature may make the decision for you.

I have loved nursing my son (12mo) but I am starting to get stressed about the upcoming baby. They will be 18mo apart, so I have 6mo to figure out a game plan!!

E is very attached to nursing. He nurses 4x a day (when he wakes up, after each nap, before bed). I would prefer he self-wean but I have a feeling he won't voluntarily give up the boob before 18mo. So here are my questions:

Anyone have a boob-loving 1year old that magically self weaned??

If YOU weaned a boob-loving 1yr+ how did it go? Should I start slowly cutting out the middle feedings? Or wait a few more months and go cold turkey?

If you tandem nursed, how did that go?! I wouldn't be opposed to it, I think I just need to hear more success stories. My OB said she tried to tandem nurse her newborn and 2yr old and if went horribly.

In every scenario , I'm worried about E being jealous of the baby nursing. Even if he is weaned I wonder if he will remember how much he liked to nurse and want to resume. Any tips or tricks for people who have been in a similar situation?

Thanks!
