I'm on that roller coaster too, 17 months and working on weaning. He's getting ready, but I'm not ready and having a hard time letting go of our twice a day meetings. I'm glad you get it, so few people around me seem to understand.

He has been getting more and more cuddly lately though, which is super nice since I'm missing our constant link. For the past week he keeps running to me and hugging my legs and sitting on my lap with his head resting on me- sigh, so nice! Hopefully your LO starts getting this cuddlyness too soon!

@Mrs. Pen: LOL, exactly- if I flash him a boob, will he stop being so busy and come nurse? I'm the weak one compared to him!

Thank you everyone! I appreciate the support :). I feel like all of my IRL friends are itching to be totally weaned by 1 year, and they don't really understand why I'm having a hard time (or why I'm still nursing...)

I'm going through the same now too, I think either my milk is changing to colostrum already, or my supply is just crashing (i'm only 9 weeks PG) and he's only 9.5 months! I'm trying not to think about it, but we've already started giving him formula at night :(

big hugs mama :)

@Weagle: Your post made me teary eyed . . . big hugs to you! It *is* emotional . . . every step seems to bring about some new unanticipated emotion, and it forces me to recognize what it really means to be a parent, and what it really feels like to be a parent . . . like one big matzah ball of emotion. I think it was @Rubies that first mentioned that becoming a parent has humbled her, and I couldn't agree more!

@Weagle: that stage of weaning was really hard for me too. The good news is that we were able to end on a really good note and I was comfortable and happy with it.

oh sweetie. I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now... I feel like I'm losing a part of him and a part of me... I had no idea what an emotional journey this would be and how much I would mourn the passing of this phase in my life!

He hadn't nursed in almost two days and today I just couldn't do it and coaxed him to nurse again! I have no idea if it'll be the last or if we'll just keep doing this off/on business... he has been stringing me along for a couple months and part of me is like this is unfair to me and just stop or continue - one or the other... but then part of me wants to hold onto every nursing session I can.

Oh Weagle, I feel your pain. Our babies, they will always need us. They will go through phases where they prefer one parent to the other, unfortunately. :-(

My baby isn't taking bottles at daycare anymore. Apparently she saw some of the babies drinking from the same type she used and started crying, asking for a bottle. It broke my heart when I heard that.

I think we are just in a tough period right now. It's a big transition time and our babies are growing up. It's so bittersweet, right?

<< I know it's not true, but I just feel like she doesn't need me anymore. Plus, she's definitely started to prefer DH which doesn't help (I know this is a phase). >>

@Weagle: I definitely wrestled with similar feelings pre-weaning!! I hope you feel better soon!!!!

LO has pretty much been weaning herself for the past few months. She's down to only nursing in the mornings and occasionally once during the day. I didn't realize how much I would mourn the end of BFing! I sobbed the other night washing all of her little cups and bowls. I know it's not true, but I just feel like she doesn't need me anymore. Plus, she's definitely started to prefer DH which doesn't help (I know this is a phase). I'm just feeling a bit sad.
