@LAGS: @birdieputt: I think I'm going to try this weekend. I gave a little weak effort tonight, but I could tell it was going to put him in a rage! As soon as i gave him the paci, he instantly went to sleep. With work tomorrow, I figure I'll give it a go on the weekend. Wish us luck!

@Amelieisme: we got rid of pacis at 5 mos because we were waking up every hour to re-insert them for our twins. it was exhausting.

here's an old thread which explains how i did it:

http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/cio-and-pacifiers

after we took away pacis, one of my twins started sleeping with a lovey (a very small breathable blankie) which she can find easily at night in her crib.

I feel like 3 or 4 months ago I could have written this post word for word, and come to think of it asked similar questions.

I weaned DD of her paci around the same age while we sleep trained, so I did it cold turkey. It was rough at first and putting her down wasn't easy but it immediately helped with her wakings. I'm so happy we did it!

I would try to cut it if you could. Ideally I think it's good to be gone before a year because after that it gets really hard to cut it out

With DD we got rid of the pacifier when we sleep trained her around 5 months. DS is 16 months and still uses it. It gets better as they get older. DS doesn't wake up for his binky even though he would at a younger age (but only once in a while). But if you are wanting to get rid of it earlier, I would definitely recommend doing it early. They get more and more attached and it is going to be a fight to get rid of DS's.

Did your LO use a paci? What age did you wean? And how did you do it?

A little background: I have been working on my 5.5 mo old's sleep lately and have gotten advice from some of you, which I appreciate! My last post you all suggested I move his bedtime up from his 9-930 bedtime to our now 7 pm bedtime because "sleep begets sleep". He is sooo much easier to put down now at this earlier time and now that I am sticking to a better bedtime routine. BUT now that I am putting him down earlier he is waking up more frequently and the wakings start earlier. I usually get a good 5-6 hours before the first waking, which used to be about 3 am, but that has moved up to 11 pm and then he usually wakes about every 2 hours thereafter. Most of the time I just have to replace his pacifier and he goes to sleep. This makes me wonder if I should nix it so that he can learn to fall asleep without the paci and thus would not need it during his night wakings.

Thoughts??
