I stopped pumping at one year too! Then started giving sippee cups during the day. It went fine for about 2 weeks and thought she would just drop feeds but then it never happened. I want to stop because she eats a ton, not picky, full meals. So I think it's just nursing for comfort whenever I'm not working. And I'm not comfortable. :) Actually, it's ok and i'm trying to enjoy the ride but I don't want to confuse her with this on and off weaning business. I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing here and it's supposed to come naturally. But really, maybe I should just stick to a plan. Is it evident, we haven't succeeded at sleep training yet....but that's another story...

Just curious, why were you "supposed" to wean at a year? My plan is like Sloane, after a year stop pumping and don't offer but don't refuse.

PS you should probably work on sleep training before weaning. Two different, somewhat traumatic things....

At 12 months I stopped pumping, so on weekdays AND weekends, I would nurse him only in the morning, late afternoon and evening. Otherwise he has a sippy with rice milk or cow's milk. We are comfortable with this and hope to keep it up as long as he wants to, although occasionally we miss the late afternoon feeding.

Don't "try" to wean... everything I have read says, "don't offer, don't refuse." So if you're out and about or having a great time and she gets distracted and misses a feeding, great. If she really needs it, let her have it!

(I say this not knowing your reasons for weaning, so maybe you need to do something more drastic....)

The more I try to wean, the more she wants me. Hmmm. I think I might delay for a few more months. It kinda freaked me out that she's getting so tall, she can sit down upright next to me and lean over to feed. I never imagined going this long..but somehow, I feel so badly to deny her if she's 'not ready'.. I just hope it's not 'too late'. Whatever that means. I've heard of the 'don't offer, don't refuse' and wondered if that works. Ok, thanks, Ladies. I liked to hear where you are at.

Good question. LO is 7 months old and I'm just starting to think about weaning as I go back to work when she's 12 months old. I think that I will wean so that I feed her in the morning and at night. Not sure, though, how to do this.

We're still nursing 5-6x a day and Lo's 11 months old.. I plan on nursing til she's 18 months old.. After 18 months I'll probably start dropping feedings until I only nurse her at night. The goal is to have her completely weaned by 24 months.

I don't have any experience but from what I've heard at mommy meetings most seem like they lessened up daytime feedings but kept morning/evening feedings for longer.

Anyone want to share their story or encouragement, or tips? I'm having trouble saying no when the boob puts her right to sleep. We were supposed to stop at one year. We are at 13 and 1/2 months. Did you do daytime weaning or nighttime first? How long did it take? What age did you do it and how did it go?
