Ditto to all that Shopaholic said, and also make sure you talk to your friend about what's most important to her so that you don't miss it (i.e. - the kiss, some special part of the ceremony, pics with grandma, etc)

Maybe practice shooting some details shots? I was not that happy with my 2nd photographer's detail shots (they spilt up our event with 2 photographers that day, but that's a whole other story). After you [the bride] spend all this time and thought into the little details, you want to have pictures of them so you don't forget. I actually got some of the best detail shots from friends and family. Like flowers, place settings, program, favors, even the food (because honestly, I couldn't even remember what was served!)
Also, love all the CANDID shots people got, us hugging friends and family that travelled so far, silly poses and dancing with my girlfriends, special moments with the groom and with my maid-of-honor.

My best friend is getting married in June. Her budget is really small, and she is a laid-back kind of person who just wants to have a big party. They can't afford a photographer, and its not a priority for them. They are just asking family/friends with nice cameras to take lots of pictures & share them.

I have a nice DSLR camera (with just a kit lens and a 50mm), and so she mentioned this to me today. I'm definitely a beginner- I shoot in manual mode usually, but am really slow and just figuring things out by trial and error (have read one of the "for dummies" book, and one other about infant photography).

I don't feel ANY pressure, but I'd love to get some good shots for her. Any tips on what I should focus on learning in the next few months in order to improve my chances of getting some good pics for her? What about tips for the day of?
