It stayed like that until 40w4d when all of a sudden I lost my mucous plug, started contractions, and went to 5cm and 100% effaced in a matter of hours! My first one was 1.5, and that was after being in labor fr 8 hours with the last two having contractions less than 3 minutes apart. I was 100% effaced. It took me 17ish hours to get to 10 from there. Same at 38, 39, and at 40 I didn't even have her check. I went into labor at 40+5, but even early on when I was 3cm dilated I was only 50% effaced. I am 38w2d now. I was on bedrest for several weeks and being closely monitored for preterm labor and a short cervix (I think by 33 weeks I was down to about 0.8cm, I guess that's about 80% effaced or so). Well, I made it to 37 weeks, they took me off bedrest and now... nothing! My doctor keeps saying "I can't believe you're still pregnant." It's a good outcome for the baby, for sure, but crazy! I am only 1-2cm dilated and baby is very low station. And I have been having tons of crazy, painful contractions for months. Midwives never checked dilation during pregnancy or labor. BUT, I love seeing all of the variations here. I know at 38 weeks, I started getting tons of contractions, and "lightning vagina" ... Here is my info!</p> <p>34 Weeks - Dr did a check (usually not until 36 weeks but I wanted to go out of town) was told baby was very low and definitely engaged. (ie No vacation)</p> <p>36 weeks - 1cm, starting to efface<br /> 37 weeks - 1cm+ more effaced<br /> 38 weeks - 3cm, very effaced (membranes swept)<br /> 40w1d - 4cm and 80% effaced (membranes swept - hard)<br /> 40w2d - scheduled induction at 7am, labor started at 1am...admitted to hospital at 6:30am at 5cm - given morphine. 8am epidural and 6cm.
