I kept 5 lbs from Lo1. I wouldn’t say it all fell off quickly. More like gradually over a year.
With Lo 2 I lost a ton right away and then I’ve held onto that extra 5 plus a river 5. Everything looks normalish except stomach and love handles and my slightly flabby arms. But this all might have more to do with me living overseas and EATING ALL THE FOOD because it’s so freaking good and you only live once and my breastfed baby is 99th percent for weight so I must be doing something right. One day I’ll work out.

Same here, the weight came off very quickly with LO1 just through breastfeeding. I was actually probably at my skinniest ever between my two LOs. I gained a lot more weight with LO2 though, and my body changed more/is still holding on to some of it. I've been really active over the last 18 months (my youngest is now 4), but I still have a little bit of belly squish that just won't budge, regardless of how much activity I do and how well I eat. It's probably not that noticeable, but I wish it would go away. I'm overall satisfied with the rest of my body though.

I think it took me two years to lose the last ten pounds! And that ten pounds was a lot, because it either sat on my stomach so my old pants didn't fit, or somewhere on my chest so my old dresses didn't fit. Oh well, I did lose it eventually, so I hope I can do it again.

@CatchAFallingStar: From what I have experienced and other mom friends have told me this is pretty typical. It often takes more effort to get back to your pre pregnancy weight with each additional pregnancy.

I did not lose the weight quickly after LO1 and I’m also not losing quickly after LO2. I also gained an extra 20 the year we ttc LO2 so needless to say I have a lot of work to do! Last time I walked a lot and went to a water aerobics class once a week and measured food/did MFP. I’d like to do a Whole30 again but LO2 needs to sleep more before I can commit to anything much more than watching portions and walking.

@crazydoglady: this thread is scaring me too. With #1 I only gained 25lbs and lost 70lbs. 21 weeks pregnant now and I've already gained 25lbs...terrified I won't be able to get back down again and anticipate gaining much more this go round based on my rapid gain so far. My only hope is that with keeping the first in full time daycare I will be able to workout more again and walk all the time during the weekdays and just be too busy to snack! :silly:

I struggled for 3 solid years postpartum to lose the baby weight after LO1 and never managed to get it off and keep it off. (I exercise, generally eat right, and gained and lost the same 10lbs over and over again.) I really think having a baby flipped a metabolism switch for me and it never flipped back. I’m really worried because I’m on track to gain way more this pregnancy and I know it won’t budge after delivery. Any weight I lost postpartum tanked my supply and it was just really frustrating. But all of the women in my family were super skinny until they had kids and ended up over 200lbs post babies, so maybe it’s just genetic for me.

I’m working to focus on being healthy and accepting that healthy involves a bigger pants size.

I gained more weight with #1 but I lost it a lot faster. With #2 I gained about 20 lbs less, but it took almost twice as long for it to come off. I'm blaming it on age and a slowing metabolism. But really, I just haven't found time to work out and I'm usually eating my kids leftovers so... no one to blame but myself.

Now that LO2 is older, I'm hoping to get some workouts in outside during the summer. And I need to get back into meal planning. I've been in such a rut with food.

Yup same. With the first I was also on a total elimination diet and LO1 woke up a lot more at night so that is probably making a pretty big difference. For this one I’ve still had to eliminate dairy, soy and eggs so you’d think that would help!

This is nothing to be ashamed of but I bought a one piece bathing suit for the first time bc no way will I feel comfortable in a bikini anytime soon (or ever? :silly: ). But it’s still unflattering bc of the c-section pouch I’m rocking.

Samesies as everyone here and same timeframe as you.

I've lost 30 of my 40 lbs but I've hit a plateau for the past 3 weeks, whereas before it was about 1 lb a week. However, I do think my supply has been impacted, we are supplementing 2-3oz a day which we never did with LO1.

Things that have helped have been using dietbet.com ($$ is a great motivator), measuring my food, figuring out my lower calorie meals and eating those more regularly, and sticking to 3 meals / 1 snack a day.

With LO2 I gained more weight and lost it slower. I believe I lost the first 2 months and then plateaued until 4-6 months when I lost a bunch more. The only thing I did was start back up with myfitnesspal for a week or 2 just to kind of reset on calories, and it was good from there. (also breastfeeding the whole time).

I'm 16 months out and only about 4 lbs more than I was with LO1 at this time, so there is hope!

For me it has definitely been harder. I never lost all of the weight after #2 and then had #3. My body has changed and I am now pushing 40. I’m trying but I’m coming to the realization it will just be a much slower process. Or I’ll have to be more stricter food wise than I want to be.

Just coming in to say I can write the exact post too. Ok maybe not. I don't know weight wise how I was after #1, but in pictures I could see that while I def didn't loose all the weight, I looked okay. But after #2, I def did not loose any weight 1.5 years in, and in general just look fatter/rounder. I also haven't ever really done anything to try to loose weight. My sister's wedding is next year so I'm finally really needing to formulate a plan to try to get in shape...

Yeah, I can commiserate. With DS1 I was back to normal within a month or so. He was born early so I didn't gain as much plus I was nursing and walking him everywhere. With DS2 I nursed and walked even more but I still feel like things aren't the same and he's 14 months. I work out a ton (like...I've run a marathon since having him.....) but I still have at least 5 lbs that just won't budge. I feel like I'd have to go on an extremely strict diet to get it to go away and I'm not super motivated. :bummed:

I'm only 3 weeks pp with baby #2 but I can already tell it's going to be like this. With my first the weight melted off super fast, I had to do an elimination diet for breastfeeding and by 3 months I was at my prepregnancy weight and I had gained 40 lbs.

With this baby, I gained 40 again but I started pregnancy about 13-14 lbs heavier than I was with baby #1 (gained weight back after weaning/eating dairy again!). A week after coming home from the hospital, I was only down 10 pounds... in spite of, you know, birthing a 7 lb 6 oz baby and placenta and all that crap. I have only lost a couple pounds since then.

But I'm trying to just be patient and give myself grace, although it's frustrating having literally no clothes that fit and being the heaviest I've ever been non-pregnant.

@catchafallingstar I'm also 5'9'' - I feel like it makes the weight easier to "hide" but my clothes still don't fit. Pre-baby #1 I was 125 which was too thin probably, pre-baby #2 I was about 137-138. I have a small frame and my "comfortable" weight is about 130-135. Dunno if I will ever get back there.Right now I'm about 160.

@SweetiePie: I think buying pieces that fit well is key! I am down to my pre baby weight on a scale, but after two babies my body (belly) is never going to be the same and it's so discouraging when old clothes don't look the same. When I sucked it up and started buying a new size it really helped how I felt.

Yep, same. With DD1 I was pre-baby weight by about 2 months pp, and actually lost an additional 10 pounds without trying. Got to my ideal weight. With DD2 I gained more (40 vs 25 w/ my first), and it's taking much longer to lose. I'm 6 months pp and have about 7 pounds to go. I just recently got to pre-baby 1 weight, and would love to get back to my ideal weight by October (trip planned with friends from college where I'll be in a swimsuit).

I also lost the weight really easily just by breastfeeding my first. Like by the time she weaned at 20 months I was the skinniest I’d been since high school, just from breastfeeding and walking a ton with the stroller (we lived in the city and walked everywhere, which was a big difference from my previous desk job).

After2 I was much slower and I never got skinny like that. I haven’t gotten as thin as I was when I got pregnant with number 2, but I’m ok with that since honestly I don’t think that’s where my body is meant to be. I’m ok with where I am now (she’s 2.5). I’d prefer to be a little thinner and I’m actually working it regularly for the first time in my life, but I think I’m healthy and look fine. And on my good days I remember that my body grew and nourished two whole amazing babies and of course it’s changed. On less confident days, I look at a friend who has two kids the same age as mine and is the same size and shape as she was in college and feel like I’m just making excuses. (She doesn’t judge, it’s just in my head).

But most of the time I have more important things to worry about and am fine with it. And like @SweetiePie: I won’t beat myself up about clothes that no longer fit and am willing to just buy things that make me feel good.

Right there with you! I’m 4months PP with baby 2 and feel pretty frustrated. Part of it is weight that is harder to lose. Part of it is that I have diastasis recti this time so I have a small pooch that I’ve never had before.

My first time I did pretty much nothing to lose the weight. The first 3 months it just melted off and I mostly looked like my old self. I started serious workouts at about 5 months PP and honestly never looked better.
This time, it’s not so easy! I still have about 10-15lbs to lose and even though I hate it, I can’t seem to get motivated. I’m eating better, but the idea of working out right now sounds awful. Maybe once baby is STTN (hopefully verrry soon) I will be more up for it.

For now I’m using it as an excuse to buy a few key pieces of clothing that make me feel good. TJ Maxx has been my friend! I found that it made me more upset to try on my old clothes and realize nothing fit or looked quite right (I was an XS/S and now I’m def at least a medium on top, sometimes a large on bottom). So when I finally ponied up and got some tops and bottoms in appropriate sizes, I feel much more confident about what I’m wearing.
That being said, I definitely will not be wearing a bathing suit in public this summer! I don’t even think I look awful, but I’ll be very self conscious and I don’t want to have to worry.

I gained the same amount with both pregnancies and it took much longer to lose it after DD2. After DD1 I was back at prepregnancy weight within a few weeks (I think I lost over 2/3 in the first week). I think it took about 9 months until I lost it all after DD2. My activity level after pregnancy wasn’t super different in those first few months where I think it would count, and I ate less after DD2 was born than DD1 so I have no idea. I was one of those lucky moms who gets super skinny breastfeeding with DD1 but wasn’t so lucky with DD2. While they were both very normal healthy pregnancies, they felt different from the start and so did postpartum if that’s any indication. Are you breastfeeding? I lost weight after I stopped breastfeeding DD2 (and gained when I stopped with DD1 🤷‍♀️).

The weight fell off so easily and quickly with my first daughter 3 years ago. This time around, not so much. I've only lost about 20 pounds of the 45-50-ish that I gained. With my first, I went from 212lb to 135 within a year, which was actually a little too thin (I'm 5'9") -- without even trying. I'm not doing anything different this time (besides being older) and I'm currently stuck at about 195lb and wearing a size 14 pants. What gives? Anyone else?
