Thanks ladies! I think this is the motivation I need to clean up my eating while making an effort to get more regular exercise. It's reassuring to hear successful stories from you all!!.

Yes, for me losing about 10 pounds helped me get pregnant both times. Working out here and there didn't help, but once I started a daily routine of working out and eating healthy, it finally worked. Not easy, not fun, it really sucked in fact, but it was the key for me.

I have PCOS and am overweight. My RE told me if I lost as little as 10lbs I'd have a greater chance of conceiving. I did lose the weight but went through two rounds of clomid before I conceived.

I don't have personal experience, but I do have friends who had difficulties getting pregnant, who lost 30-50 lbs and who both had success after losing the weight. They had no other health issues (no irregular cycles, PCOS or thyroid issues), it was simply a matter of working out and cleaning up their eating.
If you know you have 40 lbs to lose, then it can't hurt to maybe make some diet changes (since you say you're really active, which is great!) so that you're in the best shape possible to have a successful, healthy pregnancy. :)

I had/have mild PCOS. Both times we've conceived, it has been after about a 10 pound weight loss. First time I also took Clomid and met; second time with no drugs.

I am curious/worried about this too. My weight has crept up over the last two years and I worry about it making it harder to conceive. The way I see it though all we can do is ttc while making healthy changes in an effort to lose weight.

I have PCOS. Before my wedding (we started TTC right after) I lost a lot of weight. Before my weight loss I had extremely irregular cycles with no signs of ovulation. I lost 40 pounds and my cycles regulated themselves to 30ish days and I started ovulating. After my weight loss I had no trouble getting pregnant. Because of my PCOS I experienced 2 miscarriages but I was able to get pregnant 3 times in 3 tries. I'm sure that the weight loss was what jumpstarted my ovulation. Losing weight was very difficult because of my PCOS.

@NorCalWayfarer: I worry about this as well! I am not at my ideal weight. I also worry that I am just going to get even bigger if/when I do get pregnant. Umm... I should stop eating french fries for lunch, maybe?

TTC is such a crazy journey. There are anecdotal stories of all of different kinds, from women who got pregnant who were even more overweight (or didn't know they were pregnant) to those that only get pregnant when they drop the weight. My best friend is pregnant after thinking it would never happen after losing a ton of weight. But she also stopped eating gluten and milk which were causing inflammatory reactions.

Losing weight and getting healthy can't hurt, but neither can BDing as much as possible. I personally know that going out on my walks every day just helps me personally. I feel better and my outlook is better. And that is probably just as helpful as anything else.

Good luck!

I have been told over and over that if I lose weight I will up my chance of conceiving. I have pcos and losing weight is hard. I've heard success stories of women who do by losing weight, I just haven't experienced it myself.

Of course being healthy is good, regardless of what your goal is, but honestly I don't think it makes a huge difference. If your cycles are regular (no PCOS, super late O, etc), and your thyroid is in check, then I don't think it matters much. Extra weight means extra estrogen (stored in fat), which can cause eggs to be not as "good" according to some.

Has anyone had success getting pregnant after losing weight?

I'm about 40 pounds heavier than I'd like to be and it's never really bothered me that much (I'm still very active). But now I'm wondering if it could be effecting my ability to conceive? We got a BFP on our 2nd cycle but lost it and am now on my 5th cycle TTC. I have regular cycles, no PCOS or anything like that. Doctor didn't say anything about weight during last spring's preconception appointment. But now I'm wondering if it might be hindering fertility. I guess I just need to get my butt back in gear and start a daily running routine again and quit my whining. ;-)
