I think they only start to worry if your fundal height measurements don't increase with appointments in the third tri. Weight gain seems to really depend. In my case, I gained almost exactly the max recommended weight with my first (about 35 pounds) and am currently on track to gain more than recommended for this LO (I'm up over 15 at 23 weeks). So I'm worrying about gaining too much. I am normally very small though so maybe my body just needs it. Trying not to worry too much but I know it's hard either way.

DS: I lost 15lbs in the first trimester, and then I gained REALLY slowly. I was only 4lbs above my pp weight when I delivered. DS was 8lb, 12oz.

DD: Lost 5lbs, ended up gaining 18lbs total. She was 7lb, 12oz. My midwife said I'm a textbook case of a baby taking exactly what they need from the mother.

@Paddington10: every woman gains weight - Or loses- soooo differently, no worries! I only gained weight like weeks 16-26 then I stopped gaining. Baby was fine and my docs said it was normal :-)

I'm 25 weeks and have gained 5 lbs so far. Doctor is not concerned and baby is measuring a few weeks ahead. Everyone gains differently and at different times. :happy:

@Mrsbells: That's a good point. @Paddington10: For reference, I started at an athletic 5'7" 140 lbs. So I'm now around 160.

@Paddington10: it really depends on your starting weight and height. There isnt a really standard normal. I think the average weight gain is around 25 to 35 lbs. depending on many things. With my 1st pregnancy i gained 45lbs but i started out underweight. so far I think i've gained about 35 this time. I dont focus too much on how much I gain though. As long as my doctor is happy with it. Usually they will let you know if they think you need to add more calories to gain a bit more

I started at a healthy weight both times, lo1 I gained about 17 pound (lo1 was 9 pounds) this time I am on track to do about the same thing. 35 weeks and about 12 pounds up. It's just what body does right now. Breast feeding for the first few months I ate constantly! It's what I thought being pregnant would be like.

Everyone is so different. I'm about a size 12 kinda gal and didn't need/want to gain too much. With my first I didn't gain any until half way through my second Trimester on, about 30 lbs total.
With this one I am at 20 weeks now and last appointment I was down 4 lbs. So we shall see.

Try not to worry! Like others have said, every body is different and as long as the baby is measuring on track, you're good. I'm 39 weeks and about 23 pounds. The baby has been measuring well the whole time, so my doctor has never been concerned. And I've specifically asked her because I was nervous about it!

First baby, I gained a net total of 35 pounds (I lost 10 once I was put on the GD diet).

This baby, I'm up 13 pounds and have only gained 2 pounds in the last month and a half. I have GD again and I've been on the diet since I was 20 weeks. I'm almost 33 weeks now. I'm measuring on track and all of my weight is right up front with the baby.

Hi All,
How many pounds have you gained during your pregnancy? I started a bit too heavy but have only gained about 14 pounds and I am 32 weeks -- and in fact, I lost a pound since my last visit one month ago. Is this OK? I don't want to turn into a whale, but I always thought I should gain more than this and certainly not lose. I'd be curious to hear about other people's scale experiences :)
