My doctor has encouraged weight lifting specifically, and I am continuing to work out with my trainer once a week too. If you were doing it before, there's nothing wrong with keeping it up. It's not the time to start training for a marathon, but regular exercise helps with mood, fatigue, preventing excessive weight gain, and aids in faster recover post-partum. Some people claim it makes labor easier too.

The only thing I was told not to do was crunches or lay-flat-on-your-back exercises after 10 weeks, but my doc did say that planks are a-ok. Now that I am rounding the corner on the 2nd tri, I am looking forward to getting back into it like before.

Everything I've read says it's OK to continue working out at a level you're used to, so no biggie. Good for her.

I did Crossfit and lifted more than 75. That's light to me! I did what was comfortable and non strenuous. I used MY body as a guide, not some random fitness guidelines. That momma is in amazing shape and has been doing it for years. All the more power to her! And all the haters just be hating. They think every pregnant woman should be sitting on her delicate behind nomming Bon bons :)

I think its great! Ive contiuned to work out during my pregnancy & I'm 21 weeks with twins. If you listen carefully it says that at one time she was lifting almost twice as much as she is now. She has reduced her work out which is something I have had to do as well. I be she has a much easier L&D because of if.

I did Crossfit until my doctor asked me to stop around 24 weeks, but would have felt comfortable continuing with modifications if I hadn't had unrelated complications.

I did CrossFit Mom programming until my due date. It made me feel great. Going to the gym improved my mood and lifting made my aches go away. It's probably not for everybody but it worked for me.

I think one thing people don't understand about lifting is that it's nothing like lifting a heavy box or squirming child. There are good grips, balanced loads, and efficient lifting techniques. Even though I was tossing weight overhead at the gym I stopped lifting boxes and furniture much earlier on.

I continued CrossFit through 39 weeks of pregnancy, including lifting more than 75 lbs at times on certain lifts. I have no problem with what she describes. I never did anything I was uncomfortable with and always worked with my coaches on my programming to be sure it was appropriate.

I could not access the article.

DH was just asking about Cross Fit and HB mamas. I found a thread and he was impressed so many ladies had hard core workouts at 40 weeks. More power to the workout queens!

I heard pregnant ladies just need to be careful with yoga and core exercies that may mess up the stomach muscles and cause pain.

I don't think there are any problems with this. Being active is a good thing for women while pregnant. I know that historically lots of babies and mommas died but they couldn't stop working and treat it as if they were sick.

I don't think just any women should do this and definitely not starting when pregnant. But a women who has been doing it for a while, knows her body well probably is okay doing it. There are so many different unknowns. Is she doing this at high intensity or are these just training lifts slow and easy. Intensity could be an issue with these weights. But she was probably lifting 3 or 4 times as much not pregnant.

I regularly worked out pre pregnancy so I pretty much just continued what I was doing. I limited myself to about 40 lbs or less depending on the exercise but I lifted 3 times a week.

I just saw this in the news:

http://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/video?playlistId=1.1464815

In short, a woman who was a competitive weight lifter, is currently 7 months or so pregnant and still weight-lifting, up to 75lbs sometimes. She is claiming because her body is used it (and sounds like the doctor interviewed) she is not putting her baby in any harm, that woman everywhere are continue to exercise while pregnant.

What do you guys think?
