I'm 17 weeks and have lost 12 pounds so far. As long as baby is growing, everything is fine! I was a little overweight to begin with.

For my first pregnancy I lost about 25 lbs during the first and second trimesters, my OB was not concerned at all since I was overweight. She said the baby will take what it needs from me. I was a bit worried too since I read online that even obese people gain weight.

I did gain back 10 lbs in my last trimester. :)

I had a healthy 7lb 6oz baby boy.

I lost 13 in the first trimester and by 22 weeks had only gained back 4 so my (super over cautious, primary care) doctor thought I should see maternal and fetal medicine. She took one look at my chart and basically said I was wasting her time and mine. She said if I am eating, not continuing to lose (due to HG), don't look sick, and my fundal height and other growth indicators all are normal then my weight means nothing.

Fwiw, I was just into the overweight category at my prepregnancy weight and fell back into the normal range with my weight loss. I am 2-3 sizes smaller than before and my prepreg ppants just fit again now at 23 weeks but are still lose in the hips and thighs.

I was freaking out a bit before seeing the MFM doctor but am just going with it now. It helps that I can see my belly growing and feel her moving around like crazy.

My best friend was overweight when she was pregnant, and I think overall she ended up losing weight by the end of the pregnancy - your baby will find it's nutrition where it needs it!

I lost until the 3rd trimester, even then with both boys I gained less then 12 pounds. As long as your doctor ism concerned I wouldn't worry.

@HLK208: I was nauseated a lot but never threw up, if anything I think I ate more because that's what made me feel better.

Did you have bad morning sickness? I know of some women with HG, that lost instead of gained while pregnant.

Is it normal to keep losing weight through pregnancy? I've always heard it is normal for first trimester but I am 21 weeks and have lost 18 lbs total as of today. I was overweight to begin with and my midwife doesn't seem concerned but I keep seeing these things saying even if you are obese you should be gaining a little weight.
