I think portion control is key! I always cut my dinner in half and try to not touch the 2nd half.

In reality, I always think I'm going to gain 5 lbs on vacation and it is rarely more than 1 or 2. If you keep your portions reasonable I bet you won't gain anything if you are swimming, walking, etc.

I usually eat less on vacation because I'm too busy to sit down and stuff my face. And i feel gross eating heavy on the beach.

You can always do some metcon type work outs if you feel so inclined. Rounds of push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, air squats, whatever to get your heart rate up.

You can ALWAYS order off the menu. You can order simply. Grilled fish, veggies, and a side salad. If you're doing a waterfront vacation, get shrimp cocktails, steamed crab, etc. They feel like indulgences but they aren't.

But seriously. You can special order stuff and just hodge podge together a meal. Be mindful of breakfast and lunch; have healthy snacks with you (bring some protein powder, Quest bars, etc), drink lots of water...

I don't know, I never gain weight on vacation! For a few reasons - 1. When it's hot outside (beach/summer), I can't eat heavy stuff, so I eat even lighter than I would at home. (2) We like to do a lot of walking/sightseeing, which (I find) tends to burn a lot of calories. Even at the beach - lots of walks on the beach, walks around town, etc.!

I love eating stuff like salad and fish while I'm at the beach, so I try to stick to that. Get a low-fat dressing and ask for it on the side. Sometimes places have big appetizers so you could even have an appetizer as your meal. Try not to fill up on bread/crackers if they bring that out beforehand. I think as long as you're not gorging yourself on fries, burgers, hot dogs, dessert you should be ok. But with that said I do believe in everything in moderation and you'll be on vacation so I'd cheat a little

I always try to remember how I eat at home. It helps if you can buy groceries like cereal or bagels for breakfast and maybe make some sandwiches for lunch. Having one bad/larger meal a day is fine especially if you do more touring/walking.

@grizz: Also, if you have Amazon Prime they have a lot of free workout videos. There is a Jane Fonda one (which I am pretty sure is supposed to be for old people) but I do it pretty often while wearing B. It is low impact, and mostly old school aerobic moves, but the extra 25 lbs on my chest (or back) makes it more challenging. Plus, B loves it!

I recently went to Vegas and thought I would gain weight for sure since we ate so much good food. Got home after 2.5 days away and gained a pound. (not bad). :)
I would walk a lot, portion control, eat 3 meals/day.

When we went to the bahamas over Christmas we ate at buffets breakfast lunch and dinner. I have zero self control when I eat at buffets. I didn't snack between meals, we walked a ton, swam, stayed active. I didn't gain any weight surprisingly.

Great job getting down to pre-preg!!!

@tinyperson: I don't see the nutritional information, but I could probably calculate a lot of it myself. I'm thinking of seeing if my mom or husband would want to split entrees with me also. We will be at the beach, so I'm thinking I might ask my mom and dad to take baby duty for 30 minutes every morning to let me get a run in!

Ugh, I feel your pain. My parents do the exact same thing, with a dinner schedule planned out waaay in advance.

I usually try to order a healthier dinner, then save some of it to eat for lunch the following day. Add to that a small & healthy breakfast (fruit + yogurt), and as much walking/sightseeing as possible, and it's worked out for me.

I always just try and do my best with what is there. If I indulge for lunch, try and eat healthier for dinner. Could you bring a video and do in your room on your computer? Run?

I assume with reservations in place, you know what restaurants you'll be eating in. Can you get the nutritional information for any of them? Then at least you could decide ahead of time what you'll eat and plan the rest of your day accordingly. If you've got a mini-kitchen, you could probably keep your breakfast similar to what you have at home. Lunches are probably more variable. I find that on vacation we eat lunch when we feel hungry/when we see a place along the way/when it's convenient, so it's harder to plan. If you can plan your breakfast and dinner, then maybe just go with the flow for lunches?

Will you be walking a lot? I find that I walk a lot more on vacation than I do at home, so that helps too. Depends on the vacation though!

I've worked really hard to get within 5 pounds of pre-pregnancy weight. We are going on vacation next week, and my parents have already booked 5 nights worth of dinner reservations. There isn't a gym where we're staying.

How do you maintain your weight loss on vacation? Any tips or advice? Breakfast or lunch ideas? I won't be able to make the same things I'm making at home right now, but I will have a limited kitchen set up available.
