@danda: So good to know! We've had friends bringing us food for the past month (so thankful, but I need to lay off all the desserts asap), so I'm anxious to kick start with something fresh and new. WW has worked for me in the past, so I'm happy to hear that it worked while nursing, too!

@OhCaptain: Oh, sweet! That must be new, because I don't think they had it when I was nursing my first daughter! Good to know, though! I think I need the accountability of WW at the beginning, but I like the fact that I can maybe transition to MFP later!

@Mrs. Rabbit: you can also use my fitness pal. You can enter breastfeeding in the search (under food) and it gives you extra calories for the day.

@Mrs. Rabbit: I used Weight Watchers while nursing and it was great! I started around 6 weeks or so and was back to pre-pregnancy weight by 3 months. I had oversupply and there was no impact...you get the regular amount of points and then add 9 for EBF. It was a true wake-up call to see how much I needed to modify my habits...but made it very easy to figure out how (step one: don't drink two hot chocolates everyday...)

I did a search on the boards because I'm very seriously considering starting WW soon (6weeks pp this friday), and this thread popped up.

@Mrs. Tricycle: Did you start doing this? Do you like it so far? Have you maintained your supply? And (last question, i promise!) How many weeks pp were you when you started?

Thanks all! Glad to hear you all had a positive experience and it didn't impact your supply.

Because fruit and veggies are "free" it's a really good reminder to incorporate more of those into my diet. So far so good!

I did it a year after LO was born and lost 40 lbs. I plan on using it postpartum and nursing. Like others have said, they give you more points for nursing. Good to hear that 6 weeks is a good starting time.

Did it from 4 to 6 months pp with my first and lost the last 15 lbs while nursing with no supply issues. Was very happy with it and will do it again with this pregnancy and plan on starting at 8ish weeks.

I've used weight watchers before including after my daughter.

Here is what I like:
Takes more into account than just calories (includes protein, fat and fiber).
Easy to count like calories
Extra "points" for nursing
Flex points
Easy to transition off of and switch to normal living/non diet.

Here is what I didn't like:
They don't take into account "good fat" like almonds and oatmeal and avocados. They are very high in points. So yes, I didn't want to eat those things all the times because I did want to loose weight, over time I felt penalized a bit by still eating what I would consider very healthy foods.

I used it around 4 - 5 months postpartum for about 4 months. It was amazing! I lost the rest of my pregnancy weight plus some. I was nursing and never had a great supply, but I don't think it affected it since you take into account the extra calories needed to nurse.

I'll definitely do it again this go around. I used the app/online version.

I haven't done it while nursing, but they do adjust your points if you are a nursing mother to factor in the calories you need to keep your milk supply. You should be ok!

@Mrs. Tricycle: I am currently pregnant so I'm not doing WW right now but I know that they tailor how many points you get per day and you get extra if you are breast feeding in order to help make sure your supply isn't impacted.

It was effective and I maintained my supply. My LO was close to a year, I think (it's such a blur). I remember he was on solids and they had an option for that.

How old is your LO?

ETA I'm on WW currently (down 22.2lbs) and still nursing my almost 2 year old. I'm not so worried about supply since he's almost 2, so I don't take any extra points (and it's hard to say how much milk he's actually getting).

I gained a lot of weight during this pregnancy, and it's time to start losing it. I've never used weight watchers before, but I wanted a program that took into account the fact that I was nursing. Normally I just count calories, but I wasn't sure how many calories I should be eating, and I don't want to screw up my supply.

Have any of you use weight watchers while nursing? Was it effective? Did impact your supply?
