1. our state does not allow a blanket at daycare until after 12 months. This was a struggle for us as LO needed her lovey to sleep before 12 months.

2. I would be PISSED off if I found out daycare was using a blanket/weighted or not without telling me, this would not be okay with me.

3. Why were they not checking on him? 4 hours is a long nap, I would thing they would be checking his breathing every hour of a nap, I still do and my daughter is 2 years old.

@stargal: agreed! 4 hours later they noticed he was blue? What about all the checks they should be doing in that 4 hours- no one noticed he stopped breathing or was blue??? That's just neglect! I cant even imagine how those parents are feeling....

I have never heard of this before.

This is why blankets aren't allowed in GA until they are 1.

I never heard of a weighted blanket.but to put an almost 5. Pound blanket on a 7 month old is ridiculous. And the baby slept for 4 hours before they noticed he was blue.....I think they were neglectful in his care. His poor parents.

That is awful. Poor baby. :crying:

Our daycare used to allow a lightweight blanket brought from home while the babies napped, but a couple months ago they got word that the AAP now advises against daycares using blankets at all for infants. They still use blankets to cuddle the babies while they're putting them to sleep, but once they put the baby in the crib, the blanket goes back in baby's cubby. Weighted blankets never would have been allowed, though.

Ugh, that is awful. I can.not.imagine. Our daycare allowed the use of blankets but only if the parent brought one from home and wanted their infant to use it.

Wow. I feel horrible for those parents - they had no idea the blanket was even being used.

Omg...! Usually at daycare, the parents provide the blankets for their own children... I wonder if this blanket was provided by the parents. So so sad....

I had never heard of weighted blankets before - apparently some blankets are made with seeds or other weights to make them heavier to help with restless sleeping, but are not typically intended for infants. This daycare used a weighted blanket (almost 5 pound blanket) on a infant and he stopped breathing after rolling onto his stomach.

Just a heads up to not use weighted blankets on babies
