I definitely DO NOT have this problem, in fact I'm starting to gain weight while BFing my son :meh:
I worked in the mountains as a guide for a while, where we had to be taking in about 3000-5000 calories a day due to exertion and cold - thats probably a little bit excessive but the way we did it was to stir butter into oatmeal and soups (extra calories without much extra taste), full fat everything, and pumpkin oil capsules (you can get them at health food stores, they are amazing for hair and nails and are high calorie - hence why everyone doesn't take them!!). Some of the more hardcore dudes used to do shots of olive oil  I could never bring myself to do it. We also ate at least every 2/3 hrs, and I would eat if I woke up in the night. I still lost about 10lbs over that year, but if I hadn't been supplementing my diet in that way who knows what I would have weighed!

@catomd00: I echo PP's recommendations of lots of healthy calorically dense foods (and some treats).

I wasn't in your situation exactly (pre-pregnancy weight but had some more to lose) but I found months 6-8 very challenging. I had to eat all the time from getting really dizzy. Then one day at 8 months LO started eating enough solids that I could keep some of the calories I was eating.

In my experience, those of us who lose a lot of weight while breastfeeding don't easily gain it back, no matter what we eat (until weaning). In the first few months of my baby's life, I was going through a box of cookies ever day or two, (plus a lot of other junk) and still losing weight. You probably will hit a plateau eventually, though. For me, the dramatic weight loss stopped around 6 months PP (but I haven't weaned yet and I'm still ~10 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight at 13 months pp).

You can try adding good fats and eating things like protein smoothies and see if that will help? At least it will ensure that your body is healthy even as you burn all the calories.

I hope you find a good solution that works for you!

I had a similar situation and like you, didn't have weight to lose once I lost the baby weight. It was flattering at first getting compliments on losing the baby weight, then frustrating getting comments from people as I lost pounds I didn't intend to.

I eventually got back to my normal weight after weaning at 8 months, primarily because I wanted to get pregnant again and needed to gain 5 lbs or so to get my period back. I ate extra portions of things with good fats- salmon, avocado, etc., and treated myself to plenty of full fat ice cream and cheese - yum! :)

What worked for me was getting knocked up again and cutting out nursing sessions. Totally not helpful, I know. If your LO is a good eater like mine was, I don't know if there's much you can do to gain weight until closer to the 1 year mark! My butt went from a size 9 to a 3, I looked like a different person and was slightly underweight at the end. But it's coming back, and yours will too- I think it's normal for our bodies to do weird things, I'd just try to take in plenty of calories and remember it won't last forever.

@catomd00: are you stressed at all?

You can try my diet of chocolate chip cookies every day! :silly:

Seriously, I'd check with my doctor or a nutritionist to come up with a good high calorie diet.

I'm also losing weight pretty easily while breastfeeding, but my pre-pregnancy weight was higher than I'd like, so it's welcome.

My husband had a similar problem a few years ago when he was taking a mountaineering class - he would lose weight on each climb and he didn't have any weight to spare! What worked for him was eating things like mac and cheese and guacamole and snacking on nuts and peanut butter.

I've lost a good amount of weight while breastfeeding-- I'm 20 lbs below the weight I was when I got pregnant-- but I had gained some weight and wasn't happy with that weight, so the extra weight loss is welcome for me. I do feel like I eat all the time. Maybe extra fats, like avocado, full fat dairy, to help make up for the extra calories from BFing? I'm actually very nervous about reducing BFing and gaining the weight back.

My DD is almost 5 months old and EBF. I gained 20-25 lbs while pregnant and lost it all within a few weeks. My weight remained at pre-pregnancy level until a few weeks ago, when I've started losing weight and pretty rapidly. I'm small to begin with and already dipping into the double digits. Does anyone have any pointers on how to gain (or at least maintain) my weight? I am eating TONS - at least as much as I was when I was pregnant, if not more since I don't have a big belly and heartburn to get in my way!
