Looks terrible but doesn't really hurt. Sometimes it feels a little sensitive, but it's nothing that bothers me. You can have a dentist take a look but they won't do anything about it. If it turns out to be geo tongue, the good news is its no big deal at all. I get sort of what I would call "flare ups" occasionally, and I've been able to easily identify the foods that cause the issues (for me, tomatoes and onions). I still eat those foods regularly; it's just that sometimes my tongue hurts for a couple days afterwards and I take it easy on my intake of tomatoes/onions and the discomfort goes away. Even labeling it "discomfort" is a little strong. It hurts a big sometimes after eating certain foods; I stop eating them, it stops hurting. </p> <p>It's definitely something that looks much worse than it feels. My tongue looks just like your daughter's from time to time - maybe a month or so of the year, for about a week or two each time. Usually on the edges/sides of the tongue just like hers. But it doesn't hurt, typically, and goes away. Always comes back in different spots, and I have gone years between "flare ups". I've never been concerned enough to check into it myself, because it doesn't hurt and goes away, I figured it's just one of those weird things. Turns out I probably have a very mild case of geographic tongue. </p> <p>Good luck figuring it out! My daughter has that. I thought it was thrush. Sometimes it's affected by citrus or tomato sauce. It comes and goes and doesn't really bother her. While brushing her teeth tonight I noticed this...wwyd?
