My 16 month old is going through this. It seems like every couple of days he drops a food that he used to inhale. My 4 year old went through this too and he’s still relatively picky. Feeding my kids causes me more stress as a parent than anything else right now.

I’m going through this with my almost 24 month old. For school I made bento boxes for lunch so he has a variety. It worked but he still refuses. I keep offering even though he just says “no” and shakes his head. It started around 20 months I think for my LO.

@JJ2626: She won’t be forever, just keep offering. I know that this stage is frustrating but it doesn’t define her at all! Even my nearly 5yo eats things now that he didn’t eat a year ago and is willing to try most things. But he still has days or weeks where he is a PITA.
I mostly just don’t remember it at this age! But it sounds like it’s fairly common so either I blocked it out with my first or he somehow skipped it.

I just replied to your other post. I literally could have written this about my 15 mo. She shakes her head no or hands back so many things including things she used to like like beans and ravioli and carrots. She eats bread with pb or hummus, avocado, sweet potato, Mac and cheese and fruit. That’s basically it. I’m so scared she’s going to be picky forever!

@catgirl: Ok I also feel like it’s a control thing. Like I said in my other post just a bit ago.
He will vehemently shake his head no or cover his mouth for Foods he’s always loved. That behavior really makes me feel like it’s phase/control over anything else.
Thanks!

I feel like my DD had her first picky stage right around then. I honestly think it had to do with figuring out she didn't have to eat what we put in front of her. It was more of a control thing and less of an actual issue with food. We just continued to offer her a variety of food and she went back to eating most things in a month or two.

E has sometimes stopped eating previously liked foods for all sorts of reasons, teething, not actually all that hungry at that time, distracted by something. I keep offering after the initial rejection and usually she starts back up again.

I don’t remember this with my 1st.
Almost like clockwork at 15 months he’s refusing meats that he has always loved. Pickier with veggies he loved too, but better than meat.

The only consistent thing I can get him to eat are beans (black, pinto, etc) and lentils. Which thankfully are both very healthy, but the variety over here is pretty minimal lately.

He also won’t eat cheese or eggs, but that’s been ALWAYS. So his protein options are severely lacking since refusing meat.

Could it be teething??? I’m pretty perplexed.
