That was on every questionairre we filled out. I asked about it and the intent isnt to be nosy; it's a poorly worded way to ask whether or not we had issues with birth/delivery that may impact development or health and would be something the daycare would need to be aware of.

That seems to be a standard daycare application because everywhere I have applied has it.

Wow, that is over the top nosy. I would refuse to answer, and honestly, I'd reconsider my application to a place that felt comfortable asking such a personal question.

I would think that the answers: "Live." and "Not applicable." would be perfectly acceptable in this situation (and would subtly send the message that "The answers to these questions are utterly irrelevant to you," which is a message I'd be fine sending. Sometimes the writers of questionnaires need to be slapped down.).

Yeah, that's really nosy.

They may have the theory that the type of birth a baby has makes a difference in their personality. Some people think that if you have a calm, holistic birth, then your baby will be very zen-like and chill. This theory also includes that if you had a hard, complicated, labor, with lots of medical interventions, then your baby could be more worked up and stressed out.

I wouldnt have any issue if they asked if she was to term and if there were subsequent developmental issues....but it just seems like they are asking if it was vaginal or c/s is nosy as if to say "oh, no wonder she has a cold...she was a c/s baby" lol. I dont know why it bothers me so much. I am very very vocal about my section and how positive an experience it was...but thats to fellow moms, not on a questionnaire for Liv.

I like @prettylizy: idea too., LOL

I think that's kind of nosy, unless we're just talking term/ preterm. I'd probably answer something like "healthy term (38 week) birth" and leave it at that.
Though I really do like @prettylizy: 's idea.

Maybe that question is for someone with extreme issues at birth, that translates into development delays for the LO, which they would want to know just so they are aware of any issues?

I would probably call and ask, because that's a strange way to word that question.

One of my husband's best friends had two LOs with traumatic, early births and a lot of problems since then because of that. Their older daughter was more than 2 months early, and has a lot of typical preemie issues, as well some other (not sure if they are related) delays. She also has a food aversion--there's a technical word for it, but now I can't remember it.

Their second one was just born a few months ago, also extremely early, also with a lot of problems; in the hospital over a month, failure to thrive once home, etc. etc. but is still slowly growing.

So maybe that's the kind of information they are trying to get??

I agree its kinda o weird but my guess is its to look for developmental things. If your child was born a month early and had some nicu time then they might be able to adjust their age when looking at development.

I didn't have that question, but maybe it's so they can be especially attentive to any development delays?

But, I agree . . . weird.

I was just looking through the paperwork we would have to fill out if we are to send Liv to daycare in the coming months. The very first questions on the questionnaire are "What type of birth did the mother have?" and "were there any complications associated with the pregnancy and birth?" Maybe someone who works in a daycare can provide some more clarity, but why would they need to know I had a c-section and complications? I just think its weird....
