Doug the AC guy is my new best friend. We're still going to have the company owner out next week and start the process of replacing it. We just need to have it out to determine what size unit we need to go with. Ours is 22 years old and definitely on it's last leg. We don't want to keep pumping money into something we have to replace anyway. I hope it doesn't need replacement yet and is fixable today! We were in a similar boat as @banana: last year. It was horrible. </p> <p>We also went without heat for a week when Texas got its first 17" of snow two years ago. We slept by the fireplace. Our AC broke last year in the middle of summer and we just went ahead and got a new AC system. $2000 later, we had a new AC. We knew we would have to eventually fix it because it was 15 years old already when we bought the house. The AC guys are squeezing us in between 3 and 5 today and we're hoping it doesn't need replaced. If it does that can't happen until Monday or Tuesday. </p> <p>Oh and did I mention my baby shower is being held at my house on Sunday? Can't wait to call 40 women and tell them we have to go to plan b...(not even sure what plan b is at this point). </p>
