@maisymay: Corn tortillas do well for me (flour spikes my levels like crazy). I'll try the gluten-free pasta and see what happens!

@banana: My fasting is still too high, usually 115ish, but post-meal has been 90-130, fairly good. Have you tried tortillas, pita chips, or even corn chips to see how you react to them? Maybe the gluten-free pasta could help as well?

@maisymay: I've tried whole wheat pasta (had a cup) and my levels were like 160! I can eat a cup of brown rice and my levels will be around 110-120. My target is under 95 for fasting and under 135 post meals. My fasting has been in the 80-85 range and my after meal levels are usually around 120, except for those darn spikes!

@banana: have you tried whole grain pastas? I went out to eat and had whole wheat pasta with baked chicken and a salad and my levels were pretty solid. What range does your dr want you to stay at/under? Mine is supposed to be 90 fasting, 140 post-prandial.

@maisymay: Sigh. Lucky. I love potatoes. I wish my body reacted well to potatoes. =\ Another thing that I can't eat is buckwheat noodles. My friends with GD eat buckwheat noodles all the time but I had 3 bites the other day and my glucose levels shot up 20 points....with just 3 bites! :( I heard buckwheat is the same class as potatoes so maybe that's why. DARN!

Yes once u start testing you'll know what works for you. Dood... testing can get addictive! haha. I'm only required to test twice a day now but i seriously test at least 6-8 times a day! i kinda like testing (weird). lol

@maisymay: For some reason, potatoes just don't fly with me and my GD (which sucks booty cause I love potatoes!). I can eat 6 fries and my levels will spike and that's all the starch I can eat. :( I'd rather give up potatoes/fries and get more full off other starches/carbs than eat just 6 measly french fries. Have you found some foods just sit well with you and your GD? I have friends with GD who can eat a whole potato and be fine. I'll eat half a potato and get a huge spike! :( I guess everybody's bodies react to foods really differently?

@mrs. wagon: I've found that if I go for a 20 minute walk in between eating and checking my sugars after meals, it'll lowers my glucose levels, usually by at least 10-20 points. The increased activity helps your body process the carbs and use them right away!

@mrs.wagon: HAHAHA! I know what you mean about wanting to sneak in fatty foods for your DH. My husband lost 10lbs and his gut is starting to shrink, while my belly is getting bigger and bigger. sigh. It's ok though cause this diet will make you look GOOD after you deliver since you won't gain too much excess weight. woohooo!!! And tell me about it.... I LOVE cheese fries. I love chili cheese fries actually. I can eat the chili. (that's another GD friendly food as long as there isn't a ton of sugar in it!) and the cheese. But not the fries. :(

Let me know how I can help you!
I've been finding some good meal options lately. For instance, 1/2 of a grilled cheese and ham sandwich with fruit salad and milk makes for a tasty lunch. Also, breyers makes a carb smart ice cream bar that has 5g of carbs which is totally okay to eat. I've been living on sugar free chocolate pudding with almonds for breakfast. One pudding cup has a serving of carbs, and the almonds give me my protein serving. AND I just found a pizza that totally works! Domino's has a cal-ometer on their website, and if you start with a thin crust medium pizza, you can add quite a few toppings and still eat 3-4 pieces (they're small pieces). We did a chicken pizza with spinach and olives, and it was really yummy. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
