No I never experienced this with ultrasounds but I did have a false alarm with a urine sample when I was told I had protein in my urine and told it could be a sign of pre-eclamsia etc.. then the same urine sample was sent over to the lab plus blood work plus a follow up urine sample and they said everything was fine.

@yoursilverlining: for sure!!! i am so mad for you, too!! i'm glad they apologized but an apology wouldn't really have cut it if, as you say, some women may have just accepted what they said and changed their behavior. ugh!

@Andrea:
Yes, they apologized profusely. I wasn’t so much angry at my personal situation – I mean, I was really upset/angry but it was easy for me to follow up with my OB and get a real answer. I was super angry though thinking about all the women without insurance or the knowledge/experience or financial ability to get a second opinion. Had I trusted the Urgent Care’s diagnosis, I could have easily gone back to drinking, taking RX or non-RX drugs that normally would have been advised against during pregnancy – any number of things which might have been harmful early on to a fetus which was perfectly normal.

They also didn’t diagnose a blood clot I did have, and about which my OB advised me to abstain from a number of activities early on in order to lessen my chance of a miscarriage if the clot was dislodged. Again, had I not sought out that second opinion (either due to inexperience in dealing with professionals, or financial inability to go to a private OB practice) I probably would have engaged in activities that could have dislodged that clot.

Made me so mad thinking about women who have to rely on what Urgent Care would say, and how wrong they were.

YES. I had spotting/bleeding and bad cramping very early on (like late 5 week, almost week 6), and was advised by my OB to go to Urgent Care because the OB was closed for the holiday weekend. I went, they did 2 ultrasounds and told me there was no fetus or sac or anything, and that I WOULD (not might, but would) miscarry within the next few days. My HCG level was very high, which they said was further evidence that I would miscarry since they didn’t find a fetus.

Uh, yeah. Went to the OB the first day I could for a second opinion (on Tuesday following holiday weekend), and right away they found the little blob, alive and well.

I wrote a blistering letter to the hospital that runs that Urgent Care.

At my 20 week ultrasound, they told me something might be wrong with my LO and to take another one at 24 weeks. I waited around in agony for a whole month only to be told that it was nothing and that the original ultrasound technician was wrong. I was so annoyed but grateful at the same time that the baby was fine. I learned my lesson to always get a second opinion right away.
