I actually have a list in my phone because I intended on writing a letter when I got home! The list of great people is much longer than the bad people, but I still wish I could have fired a couple of people:

1. Receptionist: My water broke and I was making a huge mess, still the lady asked us to go wait in the waiting room for about a half an hour. It was especially annoying since we pre-registered a few weeks before to move things along faster once we got there!

2. Night nurse when I was in labor: I had a blanket between my legs for comfort reasons and she kept taking it away and we couldn't ever find it again, so we had to get a new one. Also, I complained to the nurse all night long that I was in A LOT of pain and I couldn't get any rest because of it, and since it had been a while I wanted to have some rest to be able to push. She kept telling me to "push the button" and I told her I did, but my epidural didn't seem to be working. FINALLY, in the morning as the new nurse rolled in, she saw something wasn't right and they ended up discovering that my epidural wasn't inserted properly! So, they had to do it again...

3. Anestigiologists: First one didn't put it in right since I suffered all night long. The second one the next morning must not have either because when I was in the middle of my c-section I started feeling them cut me...and not the normal pressure either! They ended up putting me to sleep and as a result that landed my baby a stay in the NICU for a day. I also didn't get to see my baby when he came out since I wasn't awake and because I was so out of it the rest of that evening and unable to get out of bed, I didn't get to finally see or meet my LO until the next day. :(

4: Night nurse for 3 of the nights post-delivery: Lady must have seriously come in EVERY.SINGLE.HOUR!! And each time she turned on the brightest light possible, waking all 3 of us up. Of course, when we actually called her because I needed something she took forever to get there. She was also just plain rude in a variety of other ways.

YES! The on-call Doctor.

I called up to the hospital after being in labor for 17 hrs at home to ask a question and all she told me was..

"You can come in and get checked if you want"
and then HUNG UP!

She continued being like that the entire time I was there in labor and through my c-section.

It was terrible! ugh!

Wow, I was lucky most of mine were really nice and supportive and helpful. I did have one L&D person who was odd - I think she was a resident and she was nice, but just very very nervous. She kept telling me things that were in complete contrast to what the other doctors and nurses said, and would forget what she was talking about halfway through her sentences. I was trying to fill in the blanks and help her calm down, even though I was the one in labor.

I only liked one or two of the staff from the hospital. The rest made my experience unpleasant. I could go into detail about every single person I encountered, and it would probably be a couple page long complaint. My sister gave birth at the same hospital a few months later, and she had nurses who took great care of her. I'm hoping for a better staff the next time around.

Yes, the person who walked in with my husband's food while I was in labor with Moose.

I was getting drugs because I couldn't take it anymore and the person told my husband that she had 5 kids with no meds.

She obviously didn't care that there was a fallen leaf on my door to tell everyone that my baby was dead and it didn't matter if I had meds or not. Had I not needed my husband, he said he would've attacked her because it was such an emotional time for both of us.

I'd also fire the people who told me that grief councilors would talk with us before we left. Later, I found out there were never any grief people working the entire time I was in the hospital.

Are you allowed to ask for another L&D or baby nurse if you're unhappy with the staff?

Yes. The daytime baby nurse assigned to us was very gruff and couldn't seem to remember what we asked or needed from one visit to the next and we ended up having to tattle on her just to get what we needed.

Yep. The morning shift L & D nurse was terrible, didn't listen to me and could've cared less about both my and my SO's comfort. The evening shift L & D nurse, though, ohhh, she was a godsend. And we even told her what we thought about her co-worker. The first nurse was so terrible, we even filed a written complaint. And it takes an awful, awful lot for us to complain to that degree.

P.S. Hi, cyndistar3! I love seeing all the WB members over here!

No, everyone at the birthing center was amazing, besides it was only my doula, midwife, her assistant and a few of my family members there while I was giving birth :)

I am sorry to hear your experience was so bad, they totally should have been fired!

I loved our L&D nurses-- I still rave about one who was essentially my birthing coach-- but the overnight maternity nurses were terrible. We had a private room, but still didn't get any rest. The nurses were aloof and didn't seemed very concerned about anything. We were so glad to get out of there within 24 hours.

Fortunately, no. Everyone was wonderful. I can't even post about the things those nurses did for me, too gross and embarrassing!

I am so grateful to our hospital that both Charlie and Olive were born healthy and happy!

But there were a few people I was less than thrilled with.

I would've loved to fire the entire receptionist desk at our hospital. They were somehow able to ignore that a woman was sitting in a wheelchair a foot away while she was in excruciatingly painful labor (i.e. Mrs. Bee). Jerks.

Also, when we had Charlie, this one nurse turned off Bee's epidural without telling her. Bee was in so much pain and didn't know why, and so she wasn't able to focus on the labor. Seriously lady, you couldn't have been worse at your job if you tried.
