@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I understand that some Girl Scouts do those things now, but at the time I wanted to do what my brothers did.
@Mrs.KMM: I said the same thing! I was so mad when she told me it was a boys club.

I still am! I don't use or prefer the term, because I don't really believe in a lot of societal gender rules.

I have always loved being outside, camping, hiking, fishing, growing up I preferred (and still do!) outside chores, climbing trees. I've never worn makeup, but have always had long hair and daily wear dresses.

Growing up my Dad was active in our lives teaching us to hunt and fish and camp and other outside activities. He always said he was raising us as people, vs. boys or girls.

I definitely was. My parents were "worried". I'm still the kind of girl to throw a baseball hat on, too ;)

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I wish my Girl Scout troop did things like that! I quit Girl Scouts after a year because my troop sounds a lot more like @Eko: and I told my mom that I wanted to be a Boy Scout instead. I wanted to be able to go hiking, camping, etc.!

@Eko: I was a Girl Scout and we scaled a mountain with a rushing river below us and no safety ropes. Girl Scouts are fearless too!

I completely was. I grew up with two brothers and a single mom who never tried to encourage girl behavior. I was into all the stereotypical boy things and wore boy cloths too. Although my mom made me wear dresses for holidays. My mom tried to get me into Girl Scouts as my brothers did Boy Scouts and I didn't join because I thought it was dumb to bake things and make arts and crafts. I wanted to do all the boy things. Now I'm much more girly but still many of the same things.

Nope! I was into dolls, Barbies, and dress up pretend play. The times when I ran with the neighborhood boys was when a house was renovated on the block and we all wanted to explore it.

Yes! But when I tell that to people who didn't know me growing up, they look at me skeptically because I am usually dressed up for work.

I'd say I leaned that way? I remember I used to pick up snails and tree frogs, etc. I just don't remember being that girly or doing princessy things.

I was definitely a tomboy, and still am! My mom put me in pageants and I did girl scouts, but I connected with non-girly stuff more. When my brother was old enough to join the boy scouts, I "joined" along with him and found it much more intriguing than girl scouts. I don't care for fashion or makeup, but enjoy watching/attending sports, I'm a thrill seeker, and am pretty laid back.

Nah. I was a straight up bookworm. Always had my nose in a book - didn't have time to run around and get dirty ;)

Although I was decent enough at sports and really not interested in dressing up or wearing heels or doing my hair/makeup (still am not to this day either).

I was a definite tomboy. One of my favorite pictures from childhood was standing in a puddle of mud in the backyard with my two little brothers, wearing a flower swimsuit haha.
When I was 10-14, I even bought clothes in the boys section. Boyfriend jeans and drapey tees weren't exactly the style back then, either ;) I used to hate pink, never painted my nails, went bug catching with my brothers and loved video games.

But as an adult, I'm way more feminine. I love dressing up, wearing makeup, etc.

I am a proud Tomboy! I played sports, got dirty, wasn't super frilly. As I have gotten older I am a little more feminine.

I haven't heard the term in along while.

I was definitely a tomboy. I played softball, soccer, and loved going camping with my Girl Scout troop. I very much preferred to wear jeans and t-shirts, and I would only agree to wear dresses to church. I never really got into wearing makeup or doing my hair. I hated playing with Barbies. The only dolls that I like were my Cabbage Patch Kids.

I am a little bit more girly now, but not much. I still would rather wear jeans and a t-shirt than a dress, and I rarely wear makeup. I still like sports and camping.

I haven't heard the term much recently.

Oh I was definitely a tomboy. I loved to play in the mud, climb trees, and just generally get dirty. I hated wearing dresses and pink and purple were my least favorite colors. I still consider myself a tomboy. I'm obsessed with sports and the res I still consider myself a tomboy. I'm obsessed with sports and would much rather wear jeans and flip-flops then to ever put on heels with a skirt or dress. And I rarely ever wear makeup.

I've heard the term recently too. We have friends with twin girls and they have commented that one of them is much more of a tomboy and the other is more girly.

Mr. Bee sent me a link to this nytimes article about the decline of the use of the term "tomboy."

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/15/fashion/where-have-all-the-tomboys-gone.html

I've always identified as a tomboy, maybe because there were always way more boys in my neighborhood growing up. But I was good in sports, collected baseball cards, was a thrill seeker, and had no interest in girly things. Even now though I may look girly, I still consider myself a tomboy.

What about you? Were you a tomboy growing up? Have you heard that term recently?
