I was encouraged to eat something by my nurse. I was only like 2-3 cm at the time though and I think she could tell I was going to progress slowly. I didn't deliver until my c section mid day the next say and never threw up or felt sick. I could have eaten if I wanted to, but I'd had dinner about an hour before my water broke and then labor was pretty quick. So I never really thought about food until afterward. I loved them! They also insisted that I drink water the whole time - I'm surprised to hear some women say they weren't drinking liquids! Once my son was born, a new nurse took over and brought me a bowl of snacks to choose from while I was still in the delivery room.
