Thanks ladies. Well, it sounds like most of you were able to eat. I called and asked again and they still said no. :( boo! I am hooked up right now to pitocin and drinking ginger ale for breakfast.

My induction started in the evening with cervidil inserted. I could eat before I got there but was not allowed anything except ice chips after check in (so from 6pm Sunday until I had him 11am Tuesday). I begged to eat something but they were really strict.

With my first my induction start in the morning. I don't think I ate before but I cannot remember if I was specifically told not to. About mid day I was starving and I still had awhile to go so I begged my OB to let me eat. He said normally he does not allow eating during an induction but thought I would be awhile so allowed me to eat. Bad idea! I had Mac and cheese and ended up getting sick.

With my second my induction started in the evening and I was encouraged by my midwife (same practice as the OB that delivered my first) to have a large meal before arriving.

I didnt have a planned induction... My water broke at 38 weeks but i wasnt having contractions. Before coming into the L&D triage my dr told me to take my time, get a shower, eat breakfast, pack my bags then come over to the hospital. I got there at 7:30am and i wasnt in a delivery room until 11am and was hooked up to Pitocin IV around noon... So i was glad I had something that morning. Most of the day I didnt feel hungry but by the time I delivered at 11:30pm I was starving and was so glad we thought ahead and had hoagies delivered to the hospital.

I had an unplanned induction that took FOREVER (2.5 days) and the doctor let me eat in between rounds of Cervadil, but once I was dilated enough to start pitocin, I couldn't eat any more. Once contractions started, I didn't even notice any hunger pains even though I hadn't eaten in almost 24 hours. I had brought hard candies to suck on in case I felt like I really needed something, but didn't eat any.

Yep! Even allowed to eat during my induction. I actually ate lunch right after she broke my water. And my husband forced me to eat a little dinner even though I was having crazy contractions and no desire to eat.

I was already dilated and a second time mom so there was no real concern for a c-section (induced for IUGR) so maybe that's why?

They wouldn't let me drink water either, only ice. but I had some major shaking and sickness due to hunger the first time so the second time I drank a little water and snuck a banana right after they started the pit and I definitely think it helped to eat a bit!

I wasn't induced, so take my comments with a grain of salt. I ate during early labor and my midwives encouraged me to eat. They told me that the current standard of not allowing laboring women to eat was outdated and that I could eat if I wanted to.

To be honest, once labor really started going, the last thing on my mind was eating. But I'd encourage you to eat some breakfast to keep your energy up.

I checked in at 3 pm and the induction was started, I wasn't allowed to eat and it was the worst part. My induction took 2.5 days and by the time I had to push I had ZERO energy and I was STARVING. It was awful. If I get induced again I'll be packing subs/pizzas/Stromboli's in my purse/bag!!!

I was starving so DH begged my dr to let me eat. Best meal of my life right until I started throwing that up for hours afterward!
