I don't think I ate before but I cannot remember if I was specifically told not to. About mid day I was starving and I still had awhile to go so I begged my OB to let me eat. He said normally he does not allow eating during an induction but thought I would be awhile so allowed me to eat. Bad idea! My water broke at 38 weeks but i wasnt having contractions. Before coming into the L&amp;D triage my dr told me to take my time, get a shower, eat breakfast, pack my bags then come over to the hospital. I got there at 7:30am and i wasnt in a delivery room until 11am and was hooked up to Pitocin IV around noon... So i was glad I had something that morning. Once contractions started, I didn't even notice any hunger pains even though I hadn't eaten in almost 24 hours. I ate during early labor and my midwives encouraged me to eat. They told me that the current standard of not allowing laboring women to eat was outdated and that I could eat if I wanted to.</p> <p>To be honest, once labor really started going, the last thing on my mind was eating. I had an unplanned induction. I ate lunch, went to 1 pm dr apt and was told to go get induced. I checked in at 3 pm and the induction was started, I wasn't allowed to eat and it was the worst part. My induction took 2.5 days and by the time I had to push I had ZERO energy and I was STARVING. It was awful.
