DD1 - 0 cm at 38 week appt, delivered 3 days later

DD2 - 2 cm at 36 weeks, stayed that way for almost 4 weeks(!) til she was born 2 days before due date

Heard it was common for second time moms to dilate a little and stay that way for a bit before active labor.

With DD, I was dialated 1.5 cms at 38 weeks, and my water broke the morning of my 39 week appointment. When I got to the hospital (1 hour later), I was contracting regularly and had progressed to 3 cms.

With DS, I was 3 cms at 37 and 38 weeks, and went into labor at exactly 39 weeks. By the time I got to the hospital, I'd been having timeable contractions for about 5 hours, with painful contractions the last 2 hours;, but I was still only at 3 cms! It took another hour of walking and painful, close contractions before I dilated to a 4 and could be admitted to the hospital.

From what my doctor told me, you don't close up entirely after the first baby; your cervix stays just a little bit open after one vaginal birth.

With my first pregnancy my cervix stayed closed until the morning I went into labor. By the time I was contracting regularly with plenty of pain, I was 2.5cm. This was exactly at 40 weeks, and I stayed in active labor until I delivered the next morning.

I just had one of my weekly 9th month appointments and found out I'm 2cm dilated!!! I'm 37 weeks tomorrow.

If you found out you were dilated before active labor started, how much later did you go into labor?
