My husband was in a fraternity (and we met in college) so I did get to have fun at the parties and formals still. I'm a Kappa Kappa Gamma. It was an awesome experience for me. Because of the laws of the county my school was in we didn't have actual sorority houses which meant the dues were much less and I continued to live with my best friends who were in different sororities. Greek life was huge on my campus. I wanted to be able to pledge at another house, but the new school had a totally different kind of greek system, it was like what you see in movies with the bitchy girls and that's not what I wanted to be around, it was totally different from the previous school that was only 45 min away! I went to a huge school with a very active Greek community and knew I wanted to rush from the start. I was super involved in my sorority, and the Greek system as a whole, and really, really enjoyed it.</p> <p>Now, more than ten years removed, I think it was all quite silly. I don't regret joining but I don't consider myself a lifelong member. I don't celebrate founder's day, I don't go back for homecoming, and I'm really not nostalgic for rhose days at all. Plus in the high school I came from, everybody did it. There were parts that were fun and I liked living in the big, beautiful house on the lake. But mostly I hated it.
