@Maysprout: I was one of those people who went to the hospital too early! It wasn't because of the pain though, it was because my contractions were so close together, even though they were mild. I called my doctor and said they were 3-4 minutes apart so she told me to go.

@sloaneandpuffy: Wow! 9 cm, that's some denial!

Glad to know I wasn't the only one! I think part of it was being scared of the experience and part of it not wanting to go to the hospital and being sent home because I was a 'wuss' with the comments of 'oh,, just wait until real labor starts'. Once my water broke though there was no more denial, just pain that said OK BABY OUT NOW.

I'm so happy to read about all of y'all going into labour naturally past your due dates. I'm at 39 weeks now & don't want to be induced.

Such denial! I didn't call my doula until it was too late. 9 cm when we got to the hospital. I was at 38 weeks and had resigned myself to the idea that the baby would come late, not early!

I was in denial, even though I was 4 days past my due date. I figured the contractions I was having were just another false alarm. I didn't believe it until my water broke at the restaurant.

Not in denial, but I did send my husband to work because I didn't think I would progress as fast as I did. I was more worried that the midwives would think I was a crazy lady for thinking I was in labor when in fact I had gas pains or something like that.

I was a week past my due date when I went into labor.

No because I was past my due date so I was really excited to be in labor and was glad I wouldn't have to go through induction as I really did not want to end up having a C-section.

I was pretty sure I was in labor because I was 2 days late and the pain was really different than anything I had ever experienced!
I did wait a few minutes before showering and waking everyone up (went into labor at 2am).

I think I'm going to be over-eager to get to the hospital. With me, my mom denied it all day ("It's just gas!"). She was sitting in admitting at 6 pm, and I was out by 6:14 pm.

I was so excited that I thought I was in labour when I wasn't! But when I eventually started having real contractions, I knew that I'd be having a baby soon.

My contractions got close together fast so I knew it was coming soon. Except I think I had the opposite problem, I went to the hospital too early and they sent me home. I only lasted an hour at home though, everything got stronger and more painful and I just had to go back.

Yes, my contractions started right off the bat at 2min 45 seconds and everything I had heard about first timers said they would start at much greater intervals. DH actually called the midwife and told her to convince me this was it.

Not really, once I felt the POP from my water breaking I knew he would be here within 24 hours. I had been planning to wait for contractions to get a pattern, but called the on call doc just to give them a heads up, he said to come in now since they hadn't started yet. We went in 2 hours later after I finished my work projects, we put the Christmas tree away, and the basketball game finished.

@Mrs. Jacks: We went out for a walk in the woods too with the dogs. I even took them at one point to show my husband it wasn't that big of a deal (all I can think now was why was I being such a twit). Even though I had to stop and breathe through the contractions a couple times.

I was in a decent amount of pain by later in the night and really just thought the contractions would go away and I just had to get through them (even though I was over due). There was just no logic there, I was 5-6 cm when I got checked the first time at the hospital so I guess at least I got to labor at home longer than I might have otherwise.

I was totally in denial! I was like, this should feel much worse. We went for a hike and the entire day I was in labor we created a bonsai tree, cooked, watched movies... until midnight when I started bleeding and we were like, "hmmm... maybe we should go to the hospital?"

I have no idea why I was in denial about being in labor. Most of me knew I was in labor but then a lot of me thought I was being a baby and I wasn't going to have a baby for another week. I got frustrated that my husband was convinced I was in labor and told my mom it was time to come up. She had to take off work and drive 3 hours so I thought it was a waste of time for her to come so soon (we ended up going to the hospital shortly after she arrived because my water broke).

Did anyone else try to convince themselves they weren't in labor when they were?
